We can't believe Synod Assembly is almost here! We're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, and we're also mindful that we'll need rest afterward. Please note that our office will be closed on Monday, June 8 so our staff can recover from all the excitement and hard work.

Happy Pride Month! The Metro D.C. Synod will have representation at this year's Capital Pride Parade and Festival, and we'd love for you to join us! Our theme is God Loves You As You Are! Consider signs with messages like, “We are all created in the image of God,” “You are a beloved child of God,” and “You are wonderfully made.” If you'd like to volunteer for the parade, email Caitlin Thistle at [email protected]. Several of our youth had a blast at the May Play + Pray at ZavaZone in Rockville, MD! Please remember that there is a Youth + Family listening session at the upcoming Synod Assembly on June 6 (it will be a workshop during lunch). Remember, mourn and give thanks for those in the military who gave their lives for justice, peace and the freedom of our country and all nations. Pray for the safety of those currently serving in the military and for the well-being of their families. —Prayer Ventures

"Since starting my ministry as Bishop in September 2025, there has been a steady succession of distressing events: changes to immigration status for previously protected groups, reductions in health care and voting rights, and even war. These are challenging days. They can have a cumulative effect, especially those who live in the D.C. area and have been personally impacted by job changes, for instance. No one knows what is coming next, but we do know that God is with us and has sent a powerful presence to be our advocate. To you, this Pentecost, I offer a prayer." -Bishop Hirsch

Come Holy Spirit, ground us in your love and be the fire of our witness to the teachings of Jesus. Help us to know that you are more powerful than anything we face. May our lives be filled with deep compassion and desire for a society where all may have life and live it abundantly. Be our help when we are distressed and grant us the sure and certain hope that comes from believing in you. Amen.
