❤️🔥Celebrating Pentecost Sunday at Dumbarton UMC ❤️🔥

Together, we celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit and the beautiful diversity of languages that make up both our church and our world. Pentecost reminds us that God speaks through many voices and calls us into community with one another.

☀️ Summer Schedule Reminder:
Beginning next Sunday, our worship service will move to 10:00 AM for the summer season. We hope to see you there!

📍 Adult Ed
🗓 Sunday, May 17 at 10am
💻 In person & online

This week’s topic is Gender Identity: Ann Thompson Cook will lead a conversation with Jay Pryor, a former member of Dumbarton, about the realities facing transgender people in America today. Drawing from over 35 years of LGBTQ+ activism, spiritual leadership, and personal experience, Jay will join us via Zoom for a time of honest dialogue, reflection, questions, and deeper understanding.

Jay credits Dumbarton UMC with helping shape their early understanding of “Social Justice Jesus” and faith in action, and we are grateful to welcome them back into conversation with our community.

If you missed last week’s Adult Ed featuring Jay’s one-human show, The Gender Reveal Party, we encourage you to watch it before Sunday. It’s a powerful, funny, and deeply human exploration of gender, identity, belonging, and what it means to be fully seen.

Please note: this will be our last Adult Ed until September.

Join us in celebrating a special milestone for our own pastoral intern, Cesar Lodiha! 🎓

This week Cesar graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Cesar’s leadership, compassion, and deep love for God and people have been a gift to our community, and we celebrate this next step in his ministry journey.

Please join us in congratulating and praying for Cesar in this new chapter!

This Earth Day, we give thanks for the gift of God’s creation and for the ways our community is caring for it together. 🌿

Recently, we made two meaningful updates to our church spaces:

✨ We replaced all sanctuary and social hall lightbulbs with energy-efficient LED lighting, made possible through a generous gift from a church member and a rebate from the District of Columbia.

🌱 We also planted new native plants in our garden, in partnership with Swamp Rose Co-op (www.swamprosecoop.com), helping to support local ecosystems and create a more sustainable, welcoming outdoor space.

As we celebrate Earth Day, we invite you to reflect:
How is God calling you to care for creation right where you are?

From darkness into light, from silence into song, Easter has come. 🌅

We gathered for the Easter Vigil, holding space for the story of God’s redeeming love as the light of Christ broke through the night. And on Easter Sunday, we rejoiced together in the resurrection celebrating hope, new life, and the promise that love always has the final word.

This year, our joy was even deeper as we celebrated baptism and welcomed three children into the family of God. 💧 🐚

Christ is risen! Chris is risen indeed. Alleluia! 🌸

Last night, we gathered around tables across our community for Maundy Thursday sharing food, stories, and a simple liturgy together.

In homes filled with conversation and connection, we remembered Jesus’ invitation to love one another.

There is something sacred about breaking bread together. Thank you to all who opened your homes, prepared meals, and made space for community.
