Today is a day to celebrate working people—but also to recognize that the fight for dignity, fairness, and justice in the workplace is far from over.

As people of Faith on Labor Day:

We should be concerned that federal workers are still facing uncertainty and financial hardship because of arbitrary DOGE cuts.

We should be concerned that women and people of color in the workforce have been attacked as “DEI hires” and pushed from jobs while longstanding civil-rights protections are being weakened.

We should be concerned that immigrant workers—documented or undocumented—are living with fear of detention, deportation, family separation, and being sent into dangerous situations.

We should be deeply concerned about an unnecessary and damaging trade war with Canada that is hurting working families on both sides of the border—including auto workers in Detroit and Windsor.

On this Labor Day, the Disciples Center for Public Witness hopes that these concerns are part of how we all think, act, organize, and prepare to vote before or on November 3.

The Center hopes we will all support pro-worker candidates, whatever their political persuasion or ours, and strongly and unapologetically support pro-worker ministries like ours.

Our Special Labor Day Edition of The Social Witness includes resources for congregations, worker-justice legislation, opportunities for action, voter mobilization, and ways to support the work of DC4PW.

Labor Day is more than a day to honor work—it is a call to stand with workers and pursue justice.

In our Special Labor Day 2026 Edition, we explore the dignity of work, the role of faith communities in worker justice, legislation before Congress, and concrete opportunities to move from the pulpit to the picket line.

Inside this issue:
• Labor Day, work, and worker justice
• Faith and labor in the pulpit, on the bimah, and in the minbar
• Key legislation affecting working people
• Opportunities to support workers, immigrants, farmworkers, and communities
• The “100 Days of Mobilization, 1,000 Marches to the Polls” campaign

Haiti Temporary Protected Status may expire this week, putting hundreds of thousands of Haitian families, workers, neighbors, and community members at immediate risk.

Many Haitians with TPS have lived in the U.S. for more than a decade, seeking safety, working, and contributing to our communities. Forced return would mean sending people back to dangerous and unstable conditions.

Senate Bill 4814 would extend Haiti TPS for three years. More Senate co-sponsors are urgently needed.

Join DJAN, DC4PW, and people of faith and moral conscience in calling on the U.S. Senate to act now.

To protect Haitian TPS holders is sacred. To seek justice is faithful. To act is our calling.

Haiti Temporary Protected Status is likely to expire this week, placing hundreds of thousands of Haitian families, workers, neighbors, and community members at immediate risk. TOMORROW - same location: A Presidents Day Reflection: "Disciples, Our President, and Three Disciples Presidents."

Each year on February 14, many people celebrate Valentine’s Day with cards, flowers, and tender expressions of romantic love and mutual affection. And there is nothing wrong with that.  The experience of romantic love is a gift to be celebrated, and the mutually supportive love of a committed cou...

. . . ADVOCACY ALERT. Take Action Now! https://disciplescenter.org/alerts - https://senate.gov . . ICE is OUT of control. This is because of the people who are IN control of our government. CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY and urge them to reject funding for DHS without strict limits on ICE. Otherwise the Incompetent, Cruel, and Extrajudicial actions of this increasingly lawless, brutal, and deadly paramilitary organization will continue.

Our current President was sworn in one year ago today, and now "Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked." (Isaiah 59: 14-15).
