This Week — and a Look Ahead at CSMSG

This week: The building will be closed Monday for Labor Day (no Morning Prayer that day). Parent Ministry Book Club meets Wednesday, and Yoga & Evening Prayer returns Thursday in the Great Hall.

Then on Sunday, September 13, our 2026-2027 Program Year officially begins — Sunday School, St. George's Forum, Children's Chapel, and our Youth Ministry Kickoff: Color Jam, all in one day.

Also that week: Church Service League resumes Tuesday, September 15! CSL is CSMSG's Episcopal Church Women's group, committed to service, spiritual growth, and Christian fellowship — raising funds each year for ministries throughout our parish and the wider community. Join for Bible Study, Eucharist, and lunch, followed by a guest program. All are welcome — details in this week's e-letter.

Looking further ahead: Steak & Stories launches the season on September 15, Wonderful Wednesdays returns September 23, and St. Michael's Sunday (September 27) will need a few volunteer hands to help make it special. October brings Evenings with Fr. Fred & Linda Robinson and our Fall Women's Retreat.

A heartfelt thank you to the volunteers who gave their time this past weekend to help clean up the yard and gardens at the rectory. Your work made a real difference.

Built in 1913, the rectory has been home to many of our rectors and their families over the years, most recently the Archies for 26 years. The house is in good shape for its age, but is ready for some meaningful updates. Contractors are currently submitting bids, and we will share more on costs and plans as they come together.

In the meantime, there is still work to be done in the yard. Join us for the next workdays on Monday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 10, from 8:30–10:30 AM. Bring your garden gloves and tools. All are welcome. For more information, contact Caroline Sheehan at [email protected].

Rectory Update

The Church of St. Michael and St. George’s rectory, built in 1913/1914 has happily housed many of our rectors and their families. Most recently the Archie’s enjoyed this home for 26 years. Our rectory is solidly built and is in very good shape for the home’s age. It now needs updating as no significant work has been done for many years.

The house has been emptied and cleaned and is now eager to receive Father Fred and Linda at the next four scheduled receptions they are hosting for parishioners. Please sign up for these fun events on Realm from 6-8 PM on September 22, September 28, September 29, or October 5.

Clear Path Inspections has identified projects that need attention. Currently, contractors are submitting bids so the church can get estimates for what the rectory update will cost. Once the updating plan is complete, the church will raise money to fund the projects. We will keep the parish updated as we know more.

Presently, parishioners are needed to help clean up the yard and gardens at the rectory. This coming Saturday is our first workday. Please join us between 8:30-10:30 AM on August 29th. Put on your garden gloves and bring tools to tame the weeds and bring the yard back to life. Another option is to join parishioners on Thursday, September 10th or Saturday September 12th from 8:30-10:30 AM to help. More workdays will be scheduled as needed. School is starting! Education Equity volunteers joined staff at Sumner High School to help get classrooms ready for the new year. Now in its second year at the former Stevens Middle School (a temporary location following the May 2025 tornado) Sumner welcomes students back on August 24.

Volunteers also participated in the Welcome Back event at Columbia Elementary School, where parents browsed information booths and children enjoyed activities throughout the gymnasium. The crowd favorite was the STLPD Polar Cops ice cream truck, where kids lined up for Sponge Bob and Spider-Man treats.
