St. Michael's Episcopal Day School

St. Michael's Episcopal Day School We offer a collaborative learning environment for children of all faiths and backgrounds. Visit us and see how we foster intellectual curiosity. At The St.

Michael School of Clayton, a progressive educational experience, we believe it is the educator’s responsibility to teach and research along with the child and parent to support learning and success. We believe all children are strong, capable and intelligent. We believe the heart of learning is listening. Being fully attentive to children and listening enables children to build relationships and a

ccelerates their learning. We listen to children and allow our children to take the initiative and yet, guide them in productive ways. The St. Michael School of Clayton is influenced by many progressive educational practices but rely on the Reggio approach to guide us day to day. The Reggio approach fosters a child’s intellectual development and encourages them to explore their environment and express themselves through multiple paths and all their languages including the expressive, communicative, symbolic, cognitive, ethical, metaphorical, logical, imaginative and relational.

What an unforgettable, bittersweet day at our end of year Party at the Point, the last one for our K-6th graders! Between the bounce houses, ice cream, face painting, and dancing to Mr. Mark’s band FireDog, our campus was full of pure joy.

Amidst the fun, families paused to fill out reflection cards sharing their favorite memories and hopes of their time at St. Michael’s. These beautiful words were sealed into a canister and buried beneath the roots of our new memorial tree, ensuring our 57-year legacy stays permanently rooted right here.

Miss Erin is not only an amazing teacher to young humans, she's also a dog trainer extraordinaire! She pulled out all the stops to make our last day of school one to remember. Thank you!

Today we held our final gathering at St. Michael's Episcopal Day School for our K-6 graders. We honored our 6th grade graduates and heard many wonderful things about the amazing people they are becoming. Then, each student received a certificate with a super special superlative. There was lots of cheering and laughter as we heard everything from "Most Likely to Meet a Mermaid" to "Most Likely to be an Entomologist." Dr. Human spoke about how these kids are magical and they'll take the magic into the world and to their new schools. We are truly celebrating today and looking forward with hope!

Yesterday we had a special visitor in Chapel! Father Peter came and led us in a Guided Eucharist. He went slowly through the Eucharist service, explaining the ins and outs of each thing we do. He paused to explain the history and meaning behind our prayers and movements. Thank you, Peter!

Our students absolutely rocked yesterday’s talent show with a lineup of original songs, a variety of instruments, a high-energy 80s rock band, and even a creative stop-motion video! From the clever original short play to our incredible student emcee who kept the energy high, the K through 6th graders truly showed off their hard work and star power. We couldn't be more proud of the courage and talent displayed by every single performer!

For 57 years, St. Michael’s has been a place where children have flourished under the care of dedicated staff who have seen their potential and honored their creativity. As our K-6 program closes at the end of May, we want to pause and honor the thousands of lives shaped by this school. As a living tribute to every student, teacher and family who has been a part of this story, we are planting a tree on the grounds of the Church of St. Michael & St. George.

We invite you—our alumni, former faculty, and past families—to help us nourish the roots of this memorial. We are collecting written reflections to be placed in a sealed box and buried beneath the roots of this tree. We want to fill the earth with the spirit of St. Michael’s: the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the ways this school helped you find your way in the world. Your words will become a permanent part of this sacred ground. Current students and families will have time to do this at the end of year party next week.

How to participate:
* Email us: Send your reflection (a sentence, a paragraph, or a letter) to [email protected] by Tuesday, May 19. We will print every submission to include in the box.
* Comment below: Leave your reflection or a favorite memory in the comments, and we will transcribe it to ensure it is included in the box.

St. Michael’s has always been defined by its people. Help us ensure that our collective story remains rooted here. Thank you!

We can’t say enough how much we appreciate our teachers. Their dedication to their craft and their commitment to caring for each student so intentionally is truly incredible.

Thank you parents for donating to flood the teacher workroom with snacks and for the kind words you sent in. In a year where every moment counts, your kindness made our teachers feel special and seen. Thank you for helping us celebrate the people who pour so much into our kids every day! 💛

There is so much changing around us, but inside our classrooms, the wonder of learning is as bright as ever. Our K-1 students have been busy welcoming some very special new friends! They’ve spent the last few weeks studying the lifecycle of a chicken. They carefully monitored the incubator and finally got to witness the marvel of chicks hatching!

It is with heavy hearts and profound reflection that we share some difficult news regarding the future of St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School. Since 1969, these halls have been filled with the laughter, curiosity, and bright spirits of our students.

However, after 57 years of excellence, our K–6 program will come to a close at the end of this academic year.

To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. We especially want to acknowledge that these past several years have asked so much of this community. You have navigated seasons of immense transition, adapted to constant change, and shown up for our students with unwavering resilience. We recognize the weight of this final transition after a long road of "pivoting." St. Michael’s has been more than just a school; it has been a second home for generations of "Dragons." We have watched children grow into leaders, celebrated at chapels and showcases, and built a community founded on truly seeing and knowing each child individually.

While our Pre-K and JK programs will continue to thrive under the care of our Infant + Toddler leadership, we are grieving the end of an era for our elementary grades. Our focus now is on wrapping our arms around our current families, students, and our incredible faculty who have given so much of themselves to this mission.
Thank you for being part of our story since 1969. We are so proud of every student who has ever called this place home.
