Dr. Ely Prieto, director of the Center for Hispanic Studies (CHS), shares a few thoughts on CHS following last week’s activities on campus:

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis has long been committed to training and forming ethnic immigrant students to serve as pastors and deaconesses in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). In 1987, the Hispanic Institute of Theology was established in partnership with Concordia University Chicago, River Forest, Ill. In 2006, it was moved to the Seminary campus and renamed the Center for Hispanic Studies (CHS).

Last week was a very special week for CHS. Beginning Monday, March 9, CHS offered a weeklong intensive course for students who are preparing to serve as pastors and deaconesses in the LCMS. The week was especially meaningful because the last time CHS students were with us on campus for an intensive course was about eight years ago.

It was wonderful to have these men and women in our midst again, not only attending classes but also joining us in chapel and experiencing life together here on campus. Please continue to pray for our CHS students and pray that the Lord of the harvest would provide more workers to serve Hispanic congregations and missions throughout the LCMS.
