“Owe no one anything, except to love one another…”

That's the line that opens our scripture this week—Romans 13:8-14—and it's been rattling around in our heads ever since we first read it. Paul is writing to a church trying to figure out what it actually means to live like Christ in the everyday grind of life, and his answer isn't a list of rules to follow or boxes to check. It's simpler and harder than that: owe nothing to anyone except to love one another, because love is how you fulfill the whole law.

Think about that for a second. Every commandment—don't steal, don't lie, don't covet what's your neighbor's—Paul says it all boils down to one thing. If you truly love your neighbor, you're not going to hurt them. Love isn't the easy way out of the law; it's the fullest way into it.

And then Paul gets urgent. Wake up, he says. The night is nearly over, the day is almost here—so let's live like it. Lay aside the things that keep us half-asleep to who we really are, and instead, as he puts it, "clothe yourselves with Christ." Not as an accessory. Not for show. But as the very thing you put on before you walk out the door.

This Sunday, we're overjoyed to welcome Rev. Geoff Weinman back from sabbatical as he brings this text to life in a message called "Fulfill." It feels fitting—a fresh return, wrapped around a scripture about waking up to what matters most.

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes."

That's the promise at the heart of this Sunday's scripture, and it's worth sitting with for a minute. Revelation 21:1-7 paints a picture of a new heaven and a new earth—a vision of God making a home among us, where death and mourning and pain will be no more, "for the old order of things has passed away." It's not a passage about the end of the world. It's a passage about God's relentless commitment to renewal—to showing up, dwelling with us, and making all things new, starting right now.

This Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost, we're honored to welcome guest pastor Rev. Russell Alexander, who will bring us a message titled "The Message of Jesus Christ" rooted in that same hope.

And this month, we're keeping the music close to home: a full lineup of congregational favorites—the hymns you grew up on, the ones you know without looking at the page, the ones that feel like coming home.

Paul never hands out faith in grades. He says God gives each of us a measure—and then insists the church doesn't work without every last one.

This Sunday, Rev. Alyssa Spradlin brings us "Measure of Faith" from Romans 12:1-8.

Paul opens by asking for our whole selves—bodies, habits, calendars—offered as a living sacrifice, and warns us not to let the world squeeze us into its mold. Then he says something worth sitting with: don't think of yourself more highly than you ought, and in the very next breath, don't think of yourself as spare parts either. Same body. Different members. Different work.

Teaching. Encouraging. Generosity. Leading. Showing mercy. Some of that happens from a pulpit. Most of it happens in a hospital room, at a kitchen table, in a phone call nobody else thought to make.

So how much faith is enough? Paul's answer is quieter than we expect. The measure God gave you is the measure God intends to use.

Come as you are. Sit where you like. Bring whatever measure of faith you've got today—the confident kind, the worn-out kind, the barely-hanging-on kind. It's enough. It's always been enough.

Jesus told the crowd that the problem was never the food on the plate.

It was the heart behind the hands that passed it.

This Sunday we sit with two texts that don't let any of us off easy. Isaiah stands at the temple gate with an announcement that must have stopped people cold: God's house will be called a house of prayer for ALL peoples. The foreigner. The outsider. The very people religion had quietly sorted out of the room. And God says, plainly, that there are still more to gather.

Then Matthew hands us Jesus, patiently explaining to a crowd of sincerely religious people that defilement doesn't come from what goes in. It comes from what's already living in us—and from what comes out.

Rev. Alyssa Spradlin brings us a message: "Heart Orientation." Because the question these scriptures ask isn't whether we've kept the rules. It's which direction our hearts are actually facing.

Our Chancel Choir is resting through the month of August, but the music is anything but quiet. Organist Hayden Vaughn is leading us in worship all month long, and if you've been with us these last few Sundays, you already know how good it's been!

There’s courage waiting for you this Sunday—whether you’re facing stormy waters or listening for a quiet voice in the stillness.

This week we meet Elijah at Horeb, discovering that God isn’t in the rushing wind, the earthquake, or the fire, but in a gentle whisper calling him out of the cave. And in Matthew, we watch Peter take a deep breath and step out of the safety of the boat onto the roaring waves to walk toward Jesus. Both scriptures remind us that stepping into faith often means leaving our fears behind to meet God right where we are.

We're overjoyed to welcome Guest Minister Rev. Alyssa Spradlin to our pulpit this Sunday, bringing us a message titled "Stepping Out."

There's a table set for you this Sunday—and there's always enough.

This week we hear Isaiah's astonishing invitation: "Come, everyone who thirsts... come, buy wine and milk without money and without price." No cost. No conditions. Just an open hand and an open table. And in Matthew, we watch Jesus take five loaves and two fish and feed thousands—with baskets left over. God's abundance has a way of overflowing our arithmetic.
