🔥Serve Where Your Presence Can Make a Difference
Recovery from a wildfire does not end when the smoke clears. For children and families who have lost their homes, belongings, routines, and sense of security, the effects can continue showing up in school attendance, engagement, relationships, and emotional well-being.
NEWESD 101’s Spokane Service Team is recruiting multiple AmeriCorps Attendance & Engagement Specialists for the 2026–2027 program year, with service expected to begin in September 2026.
Members will serve alongside school-based professionals to:
• Mentor and build supportive relationships with students
• Help students reconnect with school and improve attendance
• Support student and family engagement
• Assist with academic and small-group activities
• Connect students and families with appropriate school and community resources
• Provide trauma-informed, relationship-based support within the AmeriCorps role
This is not a clinical counseling position. However, it may be an especially meaningful opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students—or recent graduates—studying social work, psychology, counseling, education, human services, public health, or related fields to gain supervised, hands-on experience supporting young people.
Candidates interested in using their service toward a practicum or field-placement requirement should first confirm eligibility with their college or university.
AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance, professional development, and, upon successful completion, a Segal Education Award and other eligible benefits.
