Welcome to the Church of God (Seventh Day)

We are a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ. We are bound together and find unique identity in our combined commitment to the written Word of God as our sole authority for belief and practice. Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, introduce others to the Lord, teach them to obey His Word, and nurture spiritual growth in all believer

s. It is our desire to see all believers equipped and empowered by God’s Word and Spirit so that Christ would be exalted in their lives.

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy (chesed - חֶסֶד) endures forever.” It is a defining characteristic of God, and we can approach Him boldly based on the confidence we have in this aspect of His nature! Chesed is a key and central word in the Hebrew Bible, used almost 250 times, 125 times in just the Psalms. But its meaning is a bit illusive and full of mystery. Often, we try to capture the meaning with words like covenant faithfulness, steadfast love, loyalty, lovingkindness, or mercy. In Micah 6:8, the Lord says He requires of us to love chesed, mercy. But what does it mean to love mercy? God says He delights in mercy! Maybe loving mercy means to try to understand that we offered God nothing, further in our debauchery we deserved death, yet this King of Glory, this Father of Mercies delighted to set His heart, His loving kindness and mercy upon us, most beautifully in His Son our Lord and Savior. II Corinthians 1:3-4 shows another calling of chesed, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” Chesed isn’t easy to live out, often we don’t feel loving, it is easier to ignore, to judge, or to protect ourselves. We have been called to not only be receivers of God’s chesed, but vendors of chesed to others. “Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven! For His mercy endures forever.”

The death toll from the sudden flood in Nepal continues to climb. As of this morning, 579 dead, some reports say up to 1500 still missing, among them 90 Americans. It’s hard to imagine the horrific pain and chaos in all of this, please keep them in your prayers! Thankfully, God has promised that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth. But God’s word does prophecy about a flood of dissipation. I Peter 4:3-4 says, “For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.” These floods of dissipation are even now flooding the whole earth. Many are caught up in the torrent and strong rushing currents of their fleshly lusts. We have wasted far too much of our lives being battered by these waters. There is an Ark of Saving Safety for us in Christ. Jesus tells us that in the last days, people will just be going with the flow of dissipation, as in the days of Noah; then suddenly the flood came. He tells us, therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect!

Are you just a hearer of the word, deceiving yourself? Many of us are enthused and stirred, our passions rise when we hear God’s truth, yet often there is little change in us or obedience or action from us. Hearing truth is not obedience and conviction is not transformation. Ezekiel, the prophet, struggled with a people that were hearers not doers. Ezekiel 33:31-32 paints a picture of this hypocrisy, “So they come to you as people do, they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their hearts pursue their own gain. Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them.” When will you do it?

It seemed to take my mom way to early, and it has been eating away at my friends, and increasingly I am losing them to this ugly enemy called cancer. I Cor. 15:25,26 says, “For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.” Oh, how I yearn for the day that death will be cast into the lake of fire, when God will wipe away every tear, no more death, nor sorry, or crying. No more pain, for the former things will have passed away. In the U.S. in 2026, the American Cancer Society projects 2,114,850 new cancer diagnoses and 626,140 cancer deaths. Yet, death is not the worst thing that can happen to you. I do not want to end my life to find that I have only lived the length of it. I want to live the wide width and deep depth of it as well, and all for the glory of God! When it is my time, I want to echo King David’s heart, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” When I die, I want my life to reflect the gospel, it proclaims that death has been defeated by the power and sacrificial death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus! And so, for those in Christ, death is no longer an enemy to be fought, we can embrace it and rest in Him! With God’s grace, death is a grief that leads to glory!

Last Saturday was a crazy, chaotic, and very emotional day. Many here in Spokane had only moments to grab a few things and run. They say at least 65,000+ were evacuated because of the fires, and so far, over 900+ structures have been confirmed burned. It’s a sobering question for all of us to consider, what would we take with us in that moment? There is another fire that all of humanity faces…and only by making Christ our Savior and Lord will we escape that fire. What will we take with us? Revelation 14:13 says, “Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” This could apply in a general sense to all those that are in the Lord, have a faith fixed on Jesus, but maybe more specifically to those that die during the time of great tribulation. In a way, all we can take with us is the saving security we have in the Lord, what we have done to exalt Christ and further the mission of God, and others that God has used us to lead to a saving faith. Will you escape the fire to come? What will you take with you?

They say Anthony Fauci pleaded the 5th 111 times in this week’s Senate hearing. Leviticus 5:1 says, “If a person sins in hearing the utterance of an oath, and is a witness, whether he has seen or known of the matter—if he does not tell it, he bears guilt.” Many of our politicians have perfected the “stay safe”, “say nothing” approach. Often it is hard to get a straight answer from them. Sometimes they talk around and around the bush and really end up saying nothing, or they say “no comment”, or they answer the questions with a question. These are tactics to avoid self-incrimination and the truth. I Kings 18:21 says, “And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.” God calls us to drop all pretense before Him. We are to approach him in humble honesty and truth, no matter the consequences. True repentance begins with us being brutally and absolutely transparent before God. There is no pleading the 5th before our Righteous God and Judge. I John 1:8-9 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

A fatal brand of twisted tolerance and pseudo love has captured much of America. We must become courageous spiritual warriors armed with love and truth! There are two groups that have joined hands in their attack on our basic Judeo-Christian values. Radical Islamists and radical secularists, and they are actually fighting side by side, brought together by us, their common enemy. The cofounder of CAIR (Counsel on American-Islamic Relations) said, “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.” Every day around the world people are being tortured, r***d, burned, and beheaded in the name of this “religion of peace”. In America they have an organized strategy using political influence, legal authority, places of position, and the regulations of our own culture to further their agenda.
There seems to be many more peaceful Muslims than radical Muslims. But our witness to them must be coupled with Spirit empowered wisdom and discernment. Let us not see them as our enemies, but rather, as people who have been misled by a religion that keeps them in spiritual and cultural bo***ge, and need to be set free by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let us open our arms to them, while keeping our eyes wide open as well!

This morning we woke to a land laden with eerie smoke and splashes of deep orange. My heart goes out to those that have suffered loss and to our courageous firefighters. II Peter 3 reminds us there is a day coming when the earth will be fully purified with fervent heat and fire, “therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God”. “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

Old Iron - It was July 10th, during his campaign for the U.S. Senate, Abraham Lincoln gave a speech in Chicago, in which he reflected on the Declaration of Independence. I want to share part of that speech with you: “It happens that we meet together once every year, sometime about the 4th of July. . . . We run our memory back over the pages of history [to 1776]. We find a race of men living in that day whom we claim as our fathers and grandfathers. They were iron men. They fought for the principle that they were contending for; and we understand that by what they then did, it has followed that the degree of prosperity that we now enjoy has come to us. We hold this annual celebration to remind ourselves of all the good done, of how it was done and who did it, and how we are historically connected with it. . . .” Lincoln speaks of iron men, and I want to call your attention to our need for old iron men and women. We need this old iron for the future blessing of our families, churches, and nation. A friend shared a video clip with me that have a clarion call to the old iron among us. Psalms 92:14-15 says, “They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.” Old iron, listen closely… “God wants you to shift from achievement to wisdom. He wants you to bless the next generation, to finish well, to pray with authority not passivity, to model faith and suffering, to let go without disappearing, and to prepare joyfully for eternity not fearfully.” Old iron, God is not done with you! You are called to be bear fruit, and be fresh and flourishing, declaring the goodness of God until your final breath is gone! We need you!
