Welcome to the Church of God (Seventh Day)

We are a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ. We are bound together and find unique identity in our combined commitment to the written Word of God as our sole authority for belief and practice. Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, introduce others to the Lord, teach them to obey His Word, and nurture spiritual growth in all believer

s. It is our desire to see all believers equipped and empowered by God’s Word and Spirit so that Christ would be exalted in their lives.

“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17 It is amazing how God can use us to encourage and sharpen others. If you are to be used by God to sharpen another, you must have a certain Spirit led selfless intentionality. Deep transformational sharpening doesn’t just happen. And if you are the one wanting to be sharpened, you must humbly pursue it. Iron sharpening iron does not happen by accident, it takes a consistent determined effort, and it can be a violent act that needs much grace, patience, forgiveness, and love mixed in the process. The truth is, that every day we all grow duller and lose our edge. Yet, many resist this sharpening. Will you embrace and walk in this God designed clashing and mingling of spirits?

Are you resisting the refiner’s fire? Our annual men’s camp begins a week from today, this year our theme is, “Forged in the Fire”. I see some men today that continue to resist refinement, and so they remain a token of what God intends them to be. Their character is not purified, and they have not put away the childish things of their past. A child’s immaturity is often evident, they whine, crave recognition and attention, they are ungrateful, irresponsible, selfish, and often messy. Some of these childish traits are found in men today, and they make excuses, blame others, and we are left to clean up their messes. Are there some areas that you are resisting the Refiner’s fire? This furnace of affliction, this Refiner’s fire, is not meant for destruction, it is a fire of love and transformation. Malichai 3:3 says, “He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness.” How are you resisting the Refiner today?

Our annual men’s camp is just a couple weeks away now. Our theme is “Forged in the Fire - Becoming Men of Character”. To produce a godly, mature Christian man, God increases the temperature of life to bring to the surface the sin that is in our hearts, which we may be blinded from seeing, or just too stubborn to address. It’s a fire of love. So often we do not see or sense God’s sovereign love exercised on our behalf. Instead, we see ourselves beset with all kinds of calamities. We see ourselves as the victims of nature’s cruel fate, of the injustices of other people, and of adversities that occur with no rational cause. But we must take our stand in faith on the assurances of God’s love given to us in the Scriptures. I Peter 1:6-7a says, “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ”

Holy eager expectation, the Bible says it’s the hope that provides the essence of our salvation, the hope that produces endurance under testing as we wait for Christ’s return, the anchor for the soul amid the storms of life, and it is part of purifying the believer in this wicked world. Romans 8:23,24a says, “Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. For we were saved in this hope”. I have been doing a lot of groaning lately, and it is because I am part of the redeemed people of God, who are the first to take part in what will one day be a fully redeemed creation. Our redemption is a pledge or guarantee of God’s promise to redeem the universe. God help me to fulfill my responsibilities even as I cry out, “Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus,” anticipating the fullness of His kingdom that will establish His everlasting righteousness!

Demonic Distractions? There is a war raging in the spiritual realm every moment of every day. Satan’s schemes are subtle and incessant. As time goes on, his delusional distractions will grow in their intensity, creative approach, and believability. There will be great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect of God. We desperately need to be intimately communing with the Spirit of Truth, and deeply rooted in the Word of God! These end time demonic distractions can fill our minds with doubt, worry, and confusion, dilute our fear of God, keep our focus off of the glory and goodness of God, keep our focus on ourselves, keep us from embracing and resting in our identity in Christ, and frustrate our ability to fulfill our divine calling and serve the purposes of God! “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” - Eph. 6:14

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” - Proverbs 31:28,30 I want to praise God for our mothers today, what an amazing blessing from God they are! Far too often the depth of their mission from God is overlooked and underrated. Our youngest daughter lives next door to us, so my wife takes care of her four boys while she is at work. Mothers and grandmothers have a high and holy calling, and their influence upon these little ones for the cause of Christ is to be treasured. Our front door flies open often, and most of the time it is a little guy that wants to show his grandma something or ask her a question. I praise God for these missional mothers, sharing the gospel and love of God with their sacrifice, laps, snuggles, hugs, cookies, example, and teaching. A mother who fears the Lord should be praised! Thank you mom, we love you!

Are you blind? Jesus healed a blind man on the Sabbath, this made the prideful, hypocritical, and legalistic Pharisees angry at Him. The conversation went from physical blindness to spiritual blindness. John 9:41 says, “Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.” The blindness in this context is indicative of someone who has the humility to understand and repent of their own sin and lacking. Those who say they “see”, are so convinced of their rightness that they just cannot entertain the idea that they could be wrong. How often is your heart like the Pharisees? Pride is a sinful dark snare. It shows no mercy and rarely, if ever, announces its coming. It is sinister and slides into our lives by whispering thoughts of arrogance, conceit, and self-importance. God says He hates pride, resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. God help us!

There are foundational truths in life whose reality can greatly alter absolutely everything about us. The fear/awe of God is one of those truths. In a sense, the fear of God brings the demise of all other fears. Some have examined much of our current Christianity and conclude that we are serving a “weightless” God. The Hebrew meaning of glory (kavod) carries the thought of “heaviness”. Many today serve a “lightweight” God. His majesty and holiness no longer drops them to their knees and faces. This new pseudo god brings a worship that is irreverent and more about our feelings, than His glory, exaltation, and moving among us. Maybe this is why our theology is so shallow and tainted with syncretism, our character compromised, and our witness so inconsistent and timid? Psalm 24:8-10 describes Him like this, “Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.”

Psalm 50:15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” As God’s truth is objective, universal, and constant; His character reveals that He is also completely sovereign, perfect in love, and infinite in wisdom. That is all absolutely true, and we believe it intellectually, but it still is hard for our heart to trust Him at times. The pain and disappointments of life can uncover some of our deep questions about God. I want to encourage you today to trust and obey. If we choose to disobey, we in a sense, defy His authority and despise His holiness. And if we refuse to trust Him, we are doubting His sovereignty and questioning His goodness.
Don’t allow yourself to be badgered by your context or your emotions. When the word and promises of God are infused into our hearts by God’s Holy Spirit, we can then be empowered by His grace to trust Him even down in the midst of the mire of our pain. The word says that He can bring us up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, set our feet upon a rock, establish our steps, and put a new song in our mouth! It has been expressed this way: “God in His love always wills what is best for us. In His wisdom He always knows what is best, and in His sovereignty He has the power to bring it about.” Trust and obey Him today!
