✨ Gospel Baptist Church - Sunday Sermon Recap✨

Today Pastor Jef walked us through Civil Government – Chapter 24 of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith, grounding us in Romans 13:1–7 and 1 Peter 2:13–17 as we considered how Christians live faithfully under God ordained authority.

We reflected on seven principles for acting within the confines of civil government:
1. Government is established by God — all authority ultimately flows from Him.
2. We are subject to that authority — submission is an act of obedience to God.
3. To resist government authority is to resist God — Scripture speaks plainly on this.
4. Good rulers restrain evil and encourage good — God uses government for the common good.
5. Good people must engage in a flawed system — withdrawing is not an option for faithful believers.
6. We support the system through taxes — even this is part of our witness.
7. Pray for our leaders — Scripture commands it, and our nation needs it.

Pastor Jef also reminded us of the three spheres of God given authority:
•Church
•Home
•Civil Government

Each sphere has its role, its limits, and its responsibilities under Christ.

If you missed today’s message, be sure to listen to the sermon on our podcast. And we’d love to have you join us in person next Sunday as we gather again to worship, learn, and grow together as a church family.

Have a blessed week as you live out your faith in every sphere God has placed you in. 🙏

✨ Verse of the Week for GBC: Romans 5:1

Romans 5:1 reminds us of a truth that never stops being good news: because of Jesus, we stand in a place of peace with God. Not striving. Not guessing. Not hoping we’re “good enough.” Peace.

This verse calls us to rest in what Christ has already done—His work, not ours, is the foundation of our confidence.

💡 What This Means for Us
• Peace with God — not a feeling, but a settled reality.
• Justified by faith — we are made right with God because of Jesus, not our performance.
• Standing in grace — we live each day supported by His kindness and mercy.

❤️ A Simple Encouragement
As we walk through this week, let Romans 5:1 steady your heart. You don’t have to earn God’s approval. You already have His peace. You already have His welcome. You already have His grace.

🙏 A Short Prayer
“Lord, thank You for the peace we have through Jesus. Help us live from that peace today.”

✨ Verse of the Week: Psalm 71:1

“In You, O Lord, do I take refuge…”
This opening line from Psalm 71:1 sets the tone for a whole chapter built on confidence, dependence, and unwavering hope in God. It’s a simple declaration with a powerful posture: trust first, everything else second.

🧭 What This Verse Calls Us To
• Trust in God — not as a last resort, but as our starting point.
• Surrender — letting God be the one who steadies us when life feels uncertain.
• Confidence — believing that God’s character is more reliable than our circumstances.

💬 A Thought for GBC This Week
Psalm 71 is the prayer of someone who has walked with God for a long time. It’s the voice of a believer who has seen God’s faithfulness again and again. Verse 1 reminds us that trust isn’t a feeling—it’s a decision. A daily choice. A declaration we speak even when we don’t yet see the outcome.
As a church family, this verse invites us to anchor ourselves in the One who never fails, never abandons, and never stops working for our good.

🙏 A Simple Prayer
“Lord, teach us to trust You first. Let our confidence be rooted in who You are, not what we face. Be our refuge this week.”

Worship & the Sabbath Day
Yesterday Pastor Jef reminded us that worship isn’t something we invent — it’s our response to the God who rules over all. As the 1689 Baptist Confession says:
“The light of nature demonstrates that there is a God who has lordship and sovereignty over all.”
He walked us through four big questions:
• What is worship?
Mark 14:3–9 shows worship as costly, heartfelt devotion to Jesus.
• Should we worship?
Matthew 22:37–38 calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind.
• How shall we worship?
With God-centered, Scripture-shaped, Christ-exalting obedience.
• Shall we gather?
Hebrews 10:19–25 urges us not to neglect meeting together.
Worship is a life, but the Lord’s Day anchors that life in rest, joy, and community.
