St. Lawrence was a deacon in Rome during a time of vicious persecution.

When Roman authorities demanded the “treasures of the Church,” Lawrence gathered the poor, the sick, the widows and the vulnerable, then presented them as the Church’s true treasure.

St. Lawrence, pray for us.

“Behold, your mother.” (John 19:27). These words are spoken from the Cross.

"... thus the blessed Virgin Mary, after participating in the redeeming sacrifice of the Son, and in such an intimate way as to deserve to be proclaimed by Him the Mother not only of His disciple John but - may we be allowed to affirm it - of mankind which he in some way represents,(21) now continues to fulfill from heaven her maternal function as the cooperator in the birth and development of divine life in the individual souls of redeemed men."

~Pope St. Paul VI

Heavenly Father,

On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the example of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with your strength and peace.

In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice and, thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe.

We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

🔥 The Fire that Changes Everything.

Today is Pentecost. For fifty days, we have celebrated the Resurrection, but today that Resurrection becomes a mission.

The Apostles began this morning behind locked doors. They were a group defined by their past... their fears, their failures and their uncertainty. But when the Holy Spirit descended with the sound of a rushing wind and the appearance of fire, the "locked room" of the early Church was blown wide open.

Have you ever wondered what "IHS" stands for?

Today we honor Saint Bernardine of Siena, a 15th-century priest who had a deep love for the Holy Name of Jesus. He used to carry a tablet with the letters IHS surrounded by rays of light to encourage people to keep their focus on Christ.

💡 These letters are the first three letters of the name "Jesus" in Greek. For centuries, this symbol has served as a visual reminder that Jesus is the center of our lives and our worship.

🔥 The season of anticipation.
We are currently in the sacred days between the Ascension and Pentecost. This time mirrors the very first novena, when the Apostles stayed together in prayer, waiting for the promised gift of the Holy Spirit.

This week is a bridge between Christ’s physical presence on earth and the birth of the Church. It is a time to ask ourselves: are we ready for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit in our lives?
