Seward Church of Christ

Seward Church of Christ Don't "DO" Church - "BE" Church at the Seward Church of Christ where Christ we love & Christ we serve! We are Christians only! John 3:16-17

The churches of Christ are part of a movement that began over 200 years ago to lead people in the Christian world to return to the Bible as the sole source of spiritual teaching and guidance. To date, churches of Christ have over 40,000 congregations and 5 million members worldwide. The Seward Church of Christ has been in existence since 1962. We are non-denominational and have no central headquar

ters. The head of the church is none other than Jesus Christ himself (Ephesians 1:22-23). Each congregation of the churches of Christ is autonomous, and it is the Word of God that unites us into One Faith (Ephesians 4:3-6). We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and his holy Apostles. "And they continued steadfastly in the Apostle's doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayer. . ." Acts 2:42

We believe that God created the world, and humanity, to reflect His holy nature, but the world has been corrupted because of the entry of sin into the world. We believe all people bear the image of God, but are in desperate need of redemption from their weak and sinful nature. We believe God longs to set His creation free from the effects of sin, and has begun a process of redemption through the work of His Son, Jesus Christ, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. We believe all people are invited to become a part of God's plan of redemption by believing in Jesus Christ, repenting, or turning away from their sinful past, being baptized in the name of Christ, and receiving the transforming gift of God's Holy Spirit. We believe the Bible is God's inspired, infallible word, and that it is sufficient to equip us for the ministry that God has called us to do. We believe our mission, as a congregation of followers of Christ in Seward, is to proclaim the GOSPEL of Christ, and imitate Jesus in ministering to the sick and sinful, the hungry and homeless, and all who need the good news of God's redeeming love. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

They call it progress!
We (humanity) are fixated on making everything easier and getting done faster.
??? WHY ??? What’s the rush?
Why are we in such a hurry to finish everything we start? Eating fast causes indigestion. Working fast causes the boss to give you more to do. Aging fast causes old age. Living fast causes forgetfulness!

God sent Moses to lead His chosen people out of Egypt and slavery under Pharaoh. Exodus 1 - 40. In spite of all the amazing acts and miracles that God performed in their presence, Israel was always quick to forget what they witnessed.
We are hungry! We are thirsty! We are afraid!
For centuries the descendants of God’s Chosen People bragged about how Moses provided manna in the wilderness. And yet, when Jesus arrived on the scene and performed greater miracles the people were skeptical and were always wanting another sign.
Healing the sick, raising the dead and feeding 5,000 with 5 loaves and 2 fishes was not enough.
Today, we are still in a hurry. The worst part of hurrying is we miss all the important things in life. We miss our children growing up. We miss relationships. We miss the opportunities God puts in front of us.
We miss the truth of God’s WORD! Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” John 6:35

Slow down. Take a little time to enjoy the beauty God created just for YOU!
Take time to appreciate the family and friends God has given YOU!
Take more time to read God’s WORD and understand the plan He has for your life.
Life doesn’t come from what you consume or accomplish. Life comes from who you consume! Slow down and feast on the ONE who gave His life to redeem your soul!

Man shall not live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4
God bless you in your deliberate walk in His presence!

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:21

This world we live in can be a scary place. Tomorrow is not promised. Sin abounds.
Too often we get bad news and it seems like it always comes at the worst time.
But, there is HOPE on which we can rely!
The prophet Isaiah says, “Fear not…”
He didn’t write this to people who were unafraid. He wrote it to people who had their backs against the wall.
God wants His people to be reminded that they don’t have to be afraid because YAHWEH:
Is with YOU!
Is your GOD!
Will strengthen you.
Will help you.
Will uphold you. Isaiah:41:10

Relax. Sleep well tonight. The God who has your Heart is watching over you!

Keep pressing on the upward way!

Keep pressing on the upward way!

You read the words. You finish the chapter. You check the box.

But you don't feel anything. You don't remember what you read. And you wonder if it's even making a difference.

You're not alone. We've all been there.

The good news? God meets us even in the dry seasons.

Faithfulness isn't about feeling something every time you open your Bible.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

For the last 15-20 years I have heard a lot more talk about “leaving a legacy” than I heard in my younger days. Maybe it’s just old age catching up with me? Maybe there’s more to it than that?
In John 13:1-17 we get a glimpse of Jesus’ legacy. It says, “when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father…”
Some how He knew the time had come to make a closing statement. What was that statement?
The importance of LOVE and SERVICE!
Jesus dearly loved His disciples and friends and He spent His life proving it.
Jesus washed His disciples feet and told them they wouldn’t understand until later.
Jesus told Peter that if He couldn’t wash his feet he would have no part with Him.
If I might be so bold, I believe what Jesus was saying was “we build relationships by serving one another.”
How are your relationships doing?
What is your legacy?
“If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” John 13:17
God bless you and Happy Resurrection Day!

Matthew 25:35-36 says, “35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’”

My wife and I had the opportunity to worship with the Holly Hill Church of Christ this past week. What an amazing group of people who live the words of Jesus in Matthew 25.
They have lots of missions and lots of volunteers to carry them out.
We need more people like the Church in Holly Hill.
God bless them all!
Big shout out to Bill, Shirley, Kim, Melinda, Steve, Vicky, June, Greg, Dottie, Mike, Kim and so many others!
Keep pressing on!

The HEART is deceitful. Who can know it?
The prophet Jeremiah recognized a flaw in the human control system - Jeremiah 17:9.
Left to ourselves, we will do, say and believe almost anything.
Why?
Basically, humans tend to lie to, cheat and deceive others for a lot of different reasons:
To protect ourselves,
To feel good about ourselves,
To fit in with the crowd,
To avoid confrontation,
And the list goes on…

That’s why God promised to give His PEOPLE a new HEART (Jeremiah 24:7) and to write His laws on our heart (Jeremiah 31:33).
One of Jesus’ closest friends wrote about this in John 3:3-8 where he talks about a NEW BIRTH.
Paul reinforces the idea in Romans 8:1 where he speaks of “walking according to the Holy Spirit” and in Romans 12:2 when he writes, “do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

Jesus, our perfect example of believing loyalty, felt deeply during His ministry, but never used those feelings as an excuse to justify bad behavior.
Jesus, the faithful servant, never distorted the facts or did anything to protect His image when He was falsely accused.
Jesus desires justice, love, and faithfulness but they have to be in the right order and directed to the right entity.
Jesus was able to tell the truth without being cruel, and compassionate without compromising.
That’s what it looks like when you have been transformed by God’s Spirit.

A NEW HEART is one that is open to God’s discipline, secure in God’s promises and anchored in God’s Word!
The heart does not lead. It follows.
Is yours following Christ’s example?

God bless you as you read, study and meditate on His WORD!
