It is with great affection that I reflect on the past 12 years as pastor of Calvary: the Hill.
When we gathered all who were interested for a prayer meeting in a tiny studio apartment above Denny and Olive, none of us could have imagined where we'd be 12 years later.
I am staggered by the number of partnerships, friendships, and other relationships represented by that passage of time, not to mention all that we have seen God do in and through us.
Highlights for me include, God's provision of a building, the establishing of a functioning deacon ministry, the raising up of four associate pastors, partnering with artists for two great projects (The Great Divorce Project and Minor Prophets Minor Keys), mission trips to France and tours of Israel, 30+ days of loving presence in the midst of the CHOP, and annual partnerships with Lowell Elementary.
In these 12 years, I have (with the help of the church) grown in my own relationship with Christ, watched my children grow up (with the help of the church), and watched the church grow into an independent work of God that will continue to exist and flourish after I leave. I have often reflected that like David, "The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places," (Psalm 16:6) and I will always be grateful for such a wonderful calling.
As confident as I am in the next steps God has called me to take, my heart and my home in some significant way will always belong to Calvary: the Hill, and I have come to understand the apostle John's words, when he says, "I have no greater joy than to hear my children are walking in the truth." (3 John 1:4) I am confident this reflects the great joy ahead of me as I hear of what God continues to do in your midst.
