The longing for meaning.
We all have this longing, and Capitol Hill as a neighborhood wears this longing on its sleeve.
Thankfully, we don’t live in a meaningless cosmos where we have to create and sustain our own meaning, or else give up meaning in the name of materialistic nihilism.
Thankfully we live in a cosmos ordered by God for meaning, created beings made in His image, receiving identity and meaning from Him.
And yes, we screwed that up (clearly). But God didn’t stop at creation, He went on in Christ to enter this broken cosmos, take on himself every ounce of brokenness, injustice and sin, and die for us. Then He resurrected and offers us full redemption and meaning.
We don’t have to fulfill our longing for meaning by pretending to venerate rats.
