Did you know we're just ONE MONTH away?

In May 1986, a time capsule was placed inside our sanctuary wall with these instructions:

"To be opened on the 200th Anniversary of the Church in the Year 2026."

Well...that moment is almost here! The time capsule will be opened Sunday, August 9th as part of Scituate's Scituate Heritage Days weekend celebration.

In just one month, we'll gather to celebrate our church's 200th birthday and open this time capsule for the very first time. We can't wait to discover what our church family preserved 40 years ago and reflect on God's faithfulness through two centuries of ministry.

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for this once-in-a-generation celebration. It's sure to be a day filled with memories, surprises, gratitude, and hope for the future.

What do you think we'll find inside? Share your guesses in the comments!

Gracious and loving God, on this Father’s Day, we give you thanks for the gift of fathers and father figures who have shaped our lives with love, guidance, sacrifice, and strength. We pray for all those who are grieving the loss of their father, and for those who know their time is running short.

We pray for fathers who are always present and those who are absent; for those who have faithfully walked beside their children every step of the way, and for those whose relationships have been strained by distance, circumstance, or regret. We pray for fathers who seem to always have the right words to say, and for those who speak too quickly, too often, or not enough. We lift up dads who work tirelessly to put food on the table and a roof overhead, and for those who struggle to find work, carry the burden of unemployment, or wonder how they will provide for tomorrow.

We pray for young fathers learning as they go, for grandfathers whose wisdom blesses generations, for stepfathers, adoptive fathers, foster fathers, and all who have embraced the sacred calling of nurturing a child.

We remember those fathers who are grieving for children they have lost, and some who grieve children who never came. We pray for those whose memories of their fathers bring joy and gratitude, and for those whose memories bring pain and heartache. Wherever there is brokenness, bring healing. Wherever there is guilt, bring grace. Wherever there is loneliness, bring your comforting presence.

Lord, none of us walk this path of fatherhood perfectly, and none of us are loved perfectly, except by You. Thank you that your mercy is greater than our failures and your love stronger than our shortcomings. Help all fathers reflect your patience, your compassion, your faithfulness, and your steadfast love. Strengthen them for the responsibilities they carry, encourage them in moments of doubt, and remind them that their labor in love is never unnoticed by you.

And as we honor fathers today, draw all of us closer to you, our Heavenly Father, whose arms are always open, whose grace is always sufficient, and whose love never fails. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
