The San Antonio Liederkranz was established in 1892 by the German Catholic immigrant congregation from St. Henry Pfefferkorn, in order to beautify the German services and sing at the German festivals for the parish and community. The all-male choir has continued to sing Masses at St. Joseph's ever since, during every 4th Sunday 11:00 Mass, except during July, August, and December. Over the years,

the choir has participated in large civic gatherings, such as the Bicentennial of the founding in of San Antonio, Texas Independence Day, the Papal Mass in 1989, and has toured Germany several times, performing for the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Today, many of the singers are descendants of the original immigrant families and original choir members. They present annual Christmas and mid-year concerts, sing at many area churches as well as non-religious festivals, private occasions. They are also members of the Nord-Amerikanischer Sangerbund, Deutch Texanisher Sanger Bund, and the Texanischer Gebirgs Sangerbund, participating in the spring and fall Texas Sangerbunds. The choir has a fundraising concert in the spring or summer, and another in early December. They sing during St. Joseph's Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. Men interested in singing with the Liederkranz are encouraged to attend any rehearsal on Monday nights at St. Joseph's Hall.
