In January of 1991, Smiley and Karen Sturgis with their four children (God would bless them with two more), moved to St. Augustine (Smiley’s hometown) to plant Good News Church. Their vision was to plant a church passionate about the gospel “Good News” and living life together in small groups. On March 3, 1991, barely two months after the Sturgis’ parachuted into St. Augustine, Good News held her

first worship service at The Riverview Club in St. That evening our first small group met as well, and we have been coming together in worship and small groups ever since. On Christmas Eve, 1999, we held our first service at our Wildwood Campus. In 2002, we added our gym to make room for our children and youth. In 2010, Andy Hirko was selected to be our World Golf Village (WGV) Campus pastor, and he began the work of building a core team and finding a place to worship. Easter Sunday, 2011, Andy, along with his wife Kristy and daughter Lilyana, launched our first service at WGV. This took place in a tent as our current campus was not finished yet. We had 419 people come to our first service. In July, we were able to move inside into our beautiful WGV Campus.

💒 Sunday night was a momentous occasion in the history of Good News Church. Smiley Sturgis, our Lead Pastor and Wildwood Campus Pastor of 35 years who planted Good News Church, has officially passed on the baton of leadership. Dave Aucremann was installed as Lead Pastor of Good News Church and will also continue to serve as the WGV Campus Pastor. Strider Stokes was ordained as a PCA Pastor and installed as the Wildwood Campus Pastor. We are grateful to Smiley for the legacy of ministry and leadership that he leaves behind, and excited for the future of Good News Church! 💒

Dear Good News Church Family,

Sunday, May 31st will be a special day in the life of Good News Church, as Smiley Sturgis leads his final Sunday services after 35 years of faithful leadership.

In the morning services, we will take time to look back on the last 35 years of God’s faithfulness and the work He has done through Good News Church. It will be a meaningful opportunity for us to give thanks for Smiley’s ministry, leadership, and care for our church family over the years.

Come back that night at 6p to celebrate the future of Good News Church. We will be ordaining and installing Strider Stokes as the Campus Pastor of Wildwood and installing Dave Aucremann as the Lead Pastor of Good News Church. We hope you will make plans to join us as we honor this important moment and celebrate God’s goodness to Good News Church.

Good News Church Family:

There is exciting news to share and much to celebrate in the life of Good News Church. Strider Stokes passed his ordination exam, and Jordan VandenHeuvel passed his licensure exam. We are grateful for God’s work in their lives and are excited for how He will continue to use them in ministry.

You are invited to join us for a special Ordination and Installation Service on Sunday, May 31, 6p at Wildwood Campus.
Refreshments will be served in the gym following the service.
Childcare will be provided for newborn to 4 years old.

During this service, Dave Aucremann will be installed as Lead Pastor of Good News Church, and Strider Stokes will be ordained as Campus Pastor of Wildwood Campus. This will be a meaningful evening as we give thanks for God’s work in our church and pray for these men as they step nto their new roles of pastoral leadership. We hope you will make plans to join us for this important night.
