As part of the 250th Anniversary of the USA, Zion commissioned two young adults to paint their depiction of what the anniversary means to them! We are grateful that this Sunday at 9:15am worship, we will dedicated the first of two paintings! We are grateful for the grant from the city to make this happen.

“Patriotism” by N’Diya Hopkins (acrylic on canvas) - “For this painting, I would like to show how we are affected by the current and past events. The eagle is escaping. The inspiration for this painting is mainly to show how we are regressing as a society, politically. This symbolizes freedom that is at risk. The eagle escaping represents the ongoing fight for our amendments.”

“Tree of Life” by Destinie Bronaug (acrylic pens & watercolor on canvas) - The colorful fireworks painted above a young adult tree in a dark blue sky in gold, blue, red and white. A gathering shared with friends and families from different races, cultures and backgrounds celebrate happily with one another. Connecting with each other and having fun as they watch the painted sky. Others pluck the apples from the tree, harvesting ever color there is to offer from its roots, The blue, red and white colored apples representing America's history in bringing freedom to all people from different cultures, backgrounds and coming together. The people in the art are shown helping one another, acknowledging the fact they have come together and are now working together to celebrate showing equality and harmony. A fun detail I've made on the art is that every person plucking an apple from the tree is gathering a different color as to show there are no favorites or preferences. The tree itself symbolizes nurturing and balance, and an important being that brings everyone together despite their differences. All while they watch the fireworks, a common celebration for this holiday, shooting into the air, blooming into the night sky.”
