The prophet Jeremiah speaks of the incurable wound of his suffering yet finds in God’s words the delight of his heart. When Peter doesn’t grasp Jesus’ words about suffering, Jesus tells the disciples they will find their lives in losing them. Such sacrificial love is described by Paul when he urges us to associate with the lowly and not repay evil with evil. In worship we gather as a community that we might offer ourselves for the sake of our suffering world.

Join us at 8:30 a.m. in the sanctuary or at 10:00 a.m. on our parking lot (outdoors). At 10:00 a.m., we worship on our west parking lot (river side of building) and ask that you bring your own lawn chair to sit upon. We do have chairs available if you forget. We also invite you to our time of fellowship between services at 9:30 a.m. in Anderson Hall. Everyone is welcome.

If you are unable to join us in-person, the 10:00 a.m. service will be live-streamed on Facebook. All of our services are available throughout the week on Facebook and YouTube.

A little bit of history....
The final cost for the new building was $640,000. In recognition of the generosity of the contractor, G. Hjalmer Anderson, the basement of the new building was named Anderson Hall.

The new church was formally dedicated on September 13, 1956. The president of the National Lutheran Council, the Rev. F. Eppling Reinartz--who also served as secretary of the United Lutheran Church in America--delivered the sermon.

The following year, 1957, Trinity hired a student assistant pastor for the summer. He was a Rockford native and Trinity "son," a junior at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, named Dale Wayne Hallberg. A week before Hallberg began his duties, he and Linda McCree, a former Carthage College classmate, were married at Trinity.

That fall, in October 1957, Trinity began offering two Sunday school sessions, to parallel the two Sunday morning services.

"Old Trinity" was razed in December 1958. Construction then began on the next phase of Beckstrand II's dream for the church: the educational building.

But that same month, just before Christmas, tragedy struck the Beckstand family. Garfield and Mary Louise's 2 1/2 year-old son died following open heart surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. The entire congregation mourned with the family. Using memorial gifts from church members, Garfield and Mary Louise purchased a carved altar and baptismal font (picture) for the future educational building's proposed Bannen Chapel as a memorial to "Little Gar."
