This episode is a practical guide to Christian prayer. This week, Bishop Ruggieri shows that prayer is not something we invent. It is something we receive. Scripture, the liturgy, and the ordinary moments of the day all become places where God meets us. The question is whether we recognize Him there.

Along the way, Bishop Ruggieri turns to the Holy Spirit, the “interior master of Christian prayer,” and to Mary, who teaches us to say yes to God. He explains vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplation in plain terms. He also offers a simple image from a French peasant at the tabernacle: “I look at him and he looks at me.” Prayer, it turns out, can be that simple and still be incredibly deep.

On International Religious Freedom Day, we give thanks for the gift of religious liberty in the USA. We also pray for our brothers and sisters around the world who face discrimination, violence, or persecution because of their faith.

We celebrate International Religious Freedom Day on October 27, the anniversary of the signing of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. This law made the promotion of religious freedom a priority of U.S. foreign policy and established mechanisms to monitor and respond to religious persecution around the world.

As we approach the end of Respect Life month, we invite you to our annual Respect Life Month Closing Mass and Awards.

Bishop Ruggieri will celebrate a pro-life Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Fryeburg on Thursday, October 29 at 4:00 p.m. There will be a reception following the Mass. The celebration will also include the presentation of Respect Life Awards given to a youth awardee, a young adult awardee, and an adult awardee.
