Sunday Services at 10 AM. We are a warm, welcoming, family-friendly church in the heart of the City! All are welcome! Masks are required.

Our meetinghouse is open for in-person worship. For the safety of families with young children who are not yet able to be vaccinated, for anyone not vaccinated, for anyone with symptoms of illness, or those who are just not comfortable being in public spaces yet, we will continue to offer livestreaming for online worship through our website. Nearly two centuries ago, Rev. Sam Longfellow reminded his congregation that "to speak the truth in love" sometimes means speaking with gentleness - and sometimes with "the terrible power of heaven's pure lightning." Join us for our annual service inspired by "The Sams" (Longfellow and Johnson) on this pre-election Sunday as they remind us that "Love is power."

This morning we were honored to join multi-faith congregations from across the state for a Trans Justice Preach-In. Rev. Norm shared the binary-blurring teachings of St. Francis of Assisi and - true to the saint's joyous spirit - we embodied some "Sheep Butt Wisdom" with help from our youngest members. Throughout his life, Francis of Assisi blurred the lines that separated people by religion, class, and gender. He urged the men who followed him to be mothers to each other, and named devout women as his brothers. Part of this Sunday’s state-wide Trans Justice Preach-In, our service concludes a month-long tribute to a religious leader who embodies the First Parish mission to "Nurture the Spirit, Grow in Community, and Help Heal the World."

We are leaning into our Trans Justice Vision Goal to deepen and strengthen our role as an affirming and supportive faith community. To that goal, we encourage everyone to attend the 2026 Trans Faith & Justice Weekend from the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church in partnership with Pink Haven Maine and the Equality Community Center - ECC.

"Living Both: Trans Journeys of Faith" is a a panel discussion at the Equality Community Center on Friday, October 23th. "The Spiritual Work of Trans Liberation" is a workshop at Allen Avenue Unitarian Unversalist on Saturday, October 24th.

Today, guest preacher Caleigh Grogan spoke on kindness and community. She reminded us that "to treat others with kindness, to cultivate our compassion and generosity, is not just for our own benefit, but for the betterment of the species and the whole planet".

Caleigh Grogan is a life-long Unitarian Universalist from Bangor Maine. She studied religion at Wheaton College in Massachusetts and last spring earned her Masters in Divinity from Harvard Divinity School. In September, Caleigh was welcomed into Preliminary Fellowship with the Unitarian Universalist Association and is grateful for opportunities to worship in Maine while she prepares for her next adventure in ministry.

Join us for a screening of "Dawnland", followed by a conversation with Wabanaki REACH.

"Dawnland" is an Emmy Award winning documentary on the 2013-14 work of the Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission to examine the forced removal of indigenous children from their families and tribes in Maine.
