Deacons are a vital part of the work in the Lord's church. Their ministry is one of service and they lead through the service they render. The Apostle Paul writes to Timothy and gives him instruction on what to look for in men who would serve the church in this capacity. As you study the New Testament, you will find that the church has a leadership structure that is clearly defined and instituted by Inspiration. It begins with Christ (Colossians 1:18, Ephesians 1:22) and continues to the Elders in each congregation, (Acts 14:23, Titus 1:5). What is often misunderstood today is the relationship between a congregation and its Elders.
