"Show Me!" - Revelation 1:1-8

It's time! So, we begin our study in the book of Revelation!

I imagine the sanctuary will be filled with a mix of excitement, anticipation, curiosity, and maybe even some skepticism.

After a proper introduction, including a brief discussion of four different approaches to this complex book, we will dive right into chapter 1. Despite the fact that every verse could be a sermon in itself, we will try to grasp exactly why John has written!

What is being revealed? Is it really all that confusing? Can we have any certainty about the future of our planet? What about the future of humanity?

Here is what I can tell you for sure: What John has seen was not meant to be kept a secret. God's intention was not just to show him, but to show YOU!

If that's true....and it is...you definitely should...

"Who Am I, Really?" - Joshua 2

If someone were to ask you to reveal your true identity to them by describing who you are, what would you say?

Would you describe your upbringing, your thoughts, your desires and wants, your likes and dislikes, your actions (word and deed), your work profession, your hobbies, your greatest achievements, your greatest sins and short-comings?

Would you describe how you see yourself, or how someone else sees you? And if you took the time to thoroughly and honestly examine yourself, would you like what you saw? Is it even possible for us to thoroughly and honestly see our true selves?

Most importantly, when the all-knowing all-seeing Holy and loving God sees us, what does He see?

Tomorrow Pastor Tom Guthrie will be taking us through a study in Joshua chapter 2, the account of Rahab and the two spies, where we will see an incredible example of identity, both what man says and what God says, and in the process hopefully learn a lot about our own identity as defined by others, and most importantly as defined by God.

What do two spies and a pr******te have to teach us about identity? I suppose more than we think. I don't know about you, but I am curious! So,...

"Foolproof" - Jude 1:20-25

We will put the wraps on Jude in this last teaching, and what an interesting study it has been! Believe me when I tell you that we will end on a high note. If people know nothing else about this little letter, they know the "doxology" at the end.

But before we get there, Jude has given us a timely reminder and detailed behavior profile of dangerous people who find their way, not just into politics or business, but into the church!

Now that we can identify the behaviors, how do we keep ourselves safe from the manipulative and destructive tactics! How do we keep from getting sucked into their sinful and rebellious spiritual game? How do we keep from fooled?

So, I can tell you that the only can stand in the way of God's desire to express His kindness to you...is....you! If the danger to the faith and future of Jude's audience is not real, then Jude wasted his time writing.

How can we have a faith that won't be fooled???
