A Prayer on Mother’s Day
Holy and gracious God,
source of every tenderness and strength,
we thank you for mothers, and for those who have loved, guided, protected, and nurtured us in many ways.
We hold before you the one who longs to be a mother, and the one whose arms are empty.
We remember the one who has lost a child, and the one who carries that loss in silence.
Christ, have mercy.
We pray for the one grieving her own mother, and for the one whose mother is no longer near.
We lift up the one whose family story is marked by distance, regret, or unspoken sorrow.
We remember the one who finds this day lonely, and who needs your gentle nearness.
Christ, be tender.
Grant to mothers the grace to endure the challenges of their calling,
the honesty to repent and be renewed,
and the eyes to see your goodness at work in the lives entrusted to them.
Christ, be near.
Where there is grief, give comfort;
where there is longing, give peace;
where there is despair, give joy;
and where there is weariness, give rest.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
