Faith gets tested in the places we live every day.

At home. At work. In marriage. In friendships. In difficult conversations. In moments when we are frustrated, hurt, or simply do not know what to say.

The question is: How do we face it as people who belong to Christ?

Join us this weekend as Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Brent Smith continues our sermon series "Habits of the Household of Faith" with CONFRONT—looking at how God’s Word shapes the way we live, speak, forgive, and love one another.

ARE YOU READY? WE ARE SO EXCITED FOR WEDNESDAY!

This Wednesday, September 9, Midweek is back at Divine Shepherd!

And maybe Wednesday is exactly the night your week needs.

By then, life is already moving fast.

Work. School. Practices. Homework. Carpools. Dinner. Dishes. Screens. Schedules.

So for one night, come slow down with us.

Let us make dinner. Let us do the dishes. Sit around a table. Catch up with friends. Meet someone new. Then, from 6:00–7:00 p.m., step away from the rush for an hour and gather around God’s Word.

There is something for every age and every walk of life.

Kids will learn about Jesus and grow in His Word.

Confirmation students will dig into the Old Testament, New Testament, Apologetics, and the Catechism as they grow deeper in their faith.

And adults have several places to connect and grow:

• The Heart of the Family — practical, Christ-centered conversation for couples and parents about marriage, parenting, forgiveness, communication, and life at home.

• Women’s Bible Study: Esther — an eight-week journey through Esther, discovering God’s faithful presence and the courage He gives His people.

• Men’s Bible Study: The Man in the Mirror — honest conversation about the real challenges men face and what God’s Word has to say about them.

This is a night for real people living real lives to sit together, build friendships, open Scripture, and grow alongside brothers and sisters in Christ.

To talk. Read. Ask questions. Share. Laugh. Pray. Grow.

And Midweek isn’t only for those who already call Divine Shepherd home.

It’s for our community, too. Omaha, you’re invited.

Come on your own. Come with your spouse. Bring the kids. Invite a friend, neighbor, coworker, or another family.

Maybe church has been part of your life for as long as you can remember. Maybe it has been a while. Maybe you already have a church home, or maybe you don’t. Maybe you’ve never been to Divine Shepherd—or maybe you’ve never been to church at all.

Come. There is a seat at the table and a place for you here.

Do you ever ask yourself how? How do you do it?

How do you build a strong marriage and raise children with faith at the center—when real life is already full?

Work. School. Practices. Bills. Screens. Different personalities. Hard conversations. Parenting decisions. And somehow, everyone still needs dinner.

Some seasons feel strong. Others stretch us. Most include a little of both.

That is why this fall we are creating a space for couples and parents to step out of the weekly rush, connect with others, open God’s Word, and grow together.

Beginning Wednesday, September 9, we'll kick off a new Growth Group, The Heart of the Family: Faith-Filled Marriage and Parenting.

This practical series gets into the parts of family life that matter: marriage, communication and conflict, forgiveness, parenting, encouragement, and discipline—with honest conversation and biblical truth you can actually take home and use.

Whether you’re newly married or single, raising toddlers, in the middle of the teenage years, preparing for an empty nest—or simply want to keep growing—this is for you.

No perfect marriages. No perfect parents. Just real people learning together, encouraging one another, and keeping Christ at the heart of the family God has given us.

Wednesdays beginning September 9
6:00–7:00 p.m. | Divine Shepherd

Kids can attend Midweek, and nursery care is available for younger children.

What is shaping your home?

Between work, school, practices, meals, screens, conversations, laughter, stress, and everything else packed into a week…

Where does faith fit into everyday life?

Maybe your family already has strong rhythms of faith. Maybe you’re looking for a place to begin. Maybe life simply moves so fast that you want to become more intentional.

Wherever you are, there is always room to grow—and we don’t have to grow alone. God gives us His Word, and in His goodness, He gives us one another.

Beginning September 13, parents, grandparents, single parents, couples, and families from across our church and Omaha community are invited to a practical 10-week study of Habits of the Household.

Whether you’ve been part of Divine Shepherd for years or have never walked through our doors, you are welcome.

We’ll talk about the places where family life actually happens:

Mornings and bedtimes. Meals and conversations. Discipline and forgiveness. Screens and play. Prayer and time together.

This isn’t about creating a perfect home.

It’s about discovering simple, Christ-centered rhythms that help keep God’s Word and His promises at the heart of the home and life God has given us.

Sundays, September 13–November 15
9:15–9:50 a.m. | Divine Shepherd Chapel

Are you as ready to follow as you are to lead?

In Week Two of Habits of the Household of Faith, Pastor Brent challenged us to think about how we lead, follow, listen, learn, and walk alongside one another as Christ shapes us through His Word and gifts.

Because following isn’t weakness. It’s one of the most important habits God develops in us.

And this weekend, another habit that isn’t always easy: Confront.

How do we speak truth, handle conflict, and care enough about one another to have the difficult conversation?

🐑 Now Hiring at Little Lamb Preschool & Childcare!

For over 40 years, Little Lamb has been the place Omaha families trust with their youngest — where every child is known, loved, and prayed for. We’re growing, and we’re looking for people to join our team.

Open positions:
✅ Lead Toddler Teacher — Full Time
✅ Infant Assistant — Full Time
✅ Infant Teacher — Part Time
✅ Toddler Teacher — Part Time

No experience? We’ll train you. What we can’t train is a heart for little ones — and if you’ve got that, we want to talk.

🤨 Thought… What are the habits shaping your life?

We all have them. Morning coffee ☕️. Checking our phones 📱. Busy calendars 📆 and routines that quietly shape our days.

But what about the habits shaping our hearts—and our homes?

Pastor Brent shared a great message as he kicked off our new sermon series, “Habits of the Household of Faith”, with a simple place to begin:
👉Participate.

❓Maybe the question this week isn’t, “Do I have enough time?”

❓Maybe it’s, “What is getting the best of my time—and what is shaping my days, my life, and my household?”

⏰ THIS WEEKEND!

Divine Shepherd Member Reminder

This Sunday, August 23, at 11:00 AM, we will gather for an important Congregational Voters’ Assembly. All voting members are encouraged and asked to be present as we come together as the body of Christ to discuss, prayerfully consider, and vote on the recommendation before us.

After careful, diligent, and prayerful work, the Call Committee has unanimously recommended that Pastor Alex Bjoraker receive a Divine Call to serve among us.

This is an important opportunity for our congregation to listen, discuss, pray, and faithfully participate in the decision-making process. Let us gather with humility and open hearts, trusting the Holy Spirit to guide us through God’s Word and according to His will.

Together, we continue to Love God, Share Jesus, and Serve People.

Missed this weekend’s worship?

Catch a clip of Candidate Associate Pastor Alex’s great message, where he pointed us to the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15—who came to Jesus in deep distress and clung to His mercy.

Our Lord does not stay away from suffering. He meets us there with His grace. ✝️🙏🏼❤️

☀️Divine Shepherd Community SummerFest 2026 started out with a storm, but went out with a bang 💥! Such a fun time. 😍

The tent was packed for worship, and the Omaha community came out in full force. A special thank you to Omaha Mayor John W Ewing for sharing some of his favorite scripture passages with us. We were grateful to have the Omaha Police Department, Omaha Fire Department, Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha, and so many other community non-profits and organizations join us.

The Kid Zone was hopping with bounce houses, face painting, balloon animals, sweet treats, and games. Even with the weather, we still had some hot rods and bikes roll through. Add in great food, great music, and tons of laughs and love—it all added up to a night to remember.

Can't wait for SummerFest 2027! Get ready, it's going to be a blast.

Special thanks to the Divine Shepherd staff, Little Lamb Preschool and Childcare staff, Millard South HS Patriots Football Team, and the countless volunteers who come together and help put this community festival together every year. We are SO appreciative, as we couldn't do it without you. 🙏🏼❤️
