🇺🇸 Memorial Day

Some gave a tour. Some gave a career. Some gave everything.

Today, we remember them.

We remember the brave men and women who laid down their lives in service to our country — sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends who never came home.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13

We honor their courage. We honor their sacrifice. And we honor the love that carried them into harm’s way for the sake of people they would never meet.

We remember the families, too — the empty chairs at the table, the folded flags on the mantel, the stories told again so the names are never lost. To those who carry that weight every day: today, we stand with you.

And we give thanks for every man and woman who continues to serve with courage and humility.

Freedom has never been free. It has been carried, defended, and preserved — one life at a time.

Yet even the bravest sacrifice points beyond itself. Every life laid down for another is a quiet echo of the One who laid down His life for us all. Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, is the ultimate gift — the love that conquered death, the freedom no enemy can take, the hope no grave can hold. In Him, those who die in faith do not perish. They live.

So today, may we slow down. May we remember. May we give thanks. And may we pray for our nation, that God would lead us in peace, in unity, in wisdom, and in compassion.

From all of us at Divine Shepherd, may your Memorial Day be marked by gratitude, remembrance, and the lasting hope we have in Christ — the One whose empty tomb assures us that love is stronger than death, and that every faithful life is held forever in His hands.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” — Psalm 33:12

Thank you, Pastor Jim!

Jesus gives the Living Water. 💧

That is not merely a beautiful image. It is the promise of Christ for real people living real lives. When we are tired, dry, worn down, uncertain, or carrying more than we were ever meant to bear, Jesus does not simply tell us to try harder. He gives Himself. He gives His Word. He gives His Spirit. He gives life that this world cannot produce and cannot take away.

On Pentecost, we remember that the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the disciples, and through them the Gospel went forth into the world. That same Spirit is still at work today, calling us to faith, keeping us in Christ, and bringing life where we could never make it grow by our own strength.

What a fitting final sermon from Pastor Jim.

For so many years, he has stood before us and pointed us to the same Savior: Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, the One who gives living water to thirsty sinners.

Pastors retire. Seasons change. Life moves forward.

But the Gospel remains.
Christ still gives.
The Spirit still works.
The Church still lives, because Jesus is faithful.

Pastor Jim, thank you for preaching Christ to us. Thank you for reminding us where life is found.

🙏 A Special Weekend at Divine Shepherd

This Sunday, we say thank you — and goodbye — to a man who has faithfully walked with this congregation through countless seasons of life. Pastor Jim Rasmussen is preaching his final messages this weekend as he retires, and we’d love for you to be there.

Come as you are. Bring a friend. Whether you’ve been here for years or have never walked through our doors, this is a beautiful weekend to experience what this community is all about.

Weekend Services:
🕔 Saturday — 5:00 PM | Contemporary
🕗 Sunday — 8:15 AM | Traditional
🕙 Sunday — 10:00 AM | Contemporary

Then stay after the 10 AM service Sunday for a Retirement Reception (11 AM – 1 PM) — a time to share and honor the years Pastor Jim has given so generously to this place and these people.

All are welcome. We hope to see you. 💙

Playground Dedication! 🙏🏼🛝🥳

What a joy this morning as we dedicated our new playground! So many smiling faces from our Divine Shepherd and Little Lamb families gathered together.

We’re grateful to the Lord for this beautiful space where our children can play, laugh, and grow. Blessed beyond measure!

He has called us by name. We are His. In Him, we are enough. ✝️

🎓❤️ This past week, Divine Shepherd had the privilege of being present at Westside High School’s Senior Baccalaureate Ceremony, where Vicar Tim Nordquist shared God’s Word and Bibles were given to graduates stepping into a new chapter.

It was one of those moments that reminds us what truly matters.

Before the stage. Before the title. Before the next plan is clear. Before we prove a thing — God has already acted first in Jesus Christ.

In Him, we are redeemed.
In Him, we are called.
In Him, “we are enough.”

And that grace does not stay inside church walls. It carries into homes, schools, workplaces, friendships, and ordinary Monday mornings. God continues to work through His people right where He has called and placed them.

So maybe the question is not only for graduates, but for all of us.

Do we only see a title, a paycheck, or a task list? Or do we see how God has called us and placed us in our vocations?

Do we see the people God has placed in front of us each and everyday?

Do we come daily to the Lord in prayer and in His living Word, trusting Him to form us, lead us, and use us where He has called us?

We give thanks for every opportunity to Love God, Share Jesus, Serve People in our community.

He has called us first. We are His. 🙏🏼❤️
