My wife Cindi and I have two children, Marissa and Daniel. We discovered Lutheran Church of Hope online when I was too disabled to physically leave our house. The pastors from Hope seemed to speak directly to me and my needs almost every week! We were so excited when we learned there was to be a Local site! This is where our Hope story begins.Ā

In the spring of 2018, the pain in my back had worsened to the point I could not work another day until I found out what was wrong. After many scans and tests, the diagnosis of incurable Multiple Myeloma Cancer was determined. My heart fell to the floor in total fear and shock. Words that no one would ever want to hear.Ā There were many rough days as I began treatment and continued to deteriorate. Through this time, I broke 6 vertebrae and had surgery to repair two of them. With my wife’s steadfast encouragement, prayers from our church family and many others, we were determined to persevere.Ā

I sent many tearful prayers to God. I know life is not always fair in this broken world, but I asked God to let me see our kids graduate from college and get their lives established. God has shown his work in our lives many times in the past, certainly He would now!Ā

I was prepared for an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant which was supposed to put me into remission. I was given a 40% chance of it working and keeping the active cancer away for 8-12 months. My response to the doctors was, you do your part, and I will let God do His part.Ā

God blessed me with 38 months of remission, with no chemo! During this time of remission, several new treatments were developed. Since my remission ended in June of 2022, I have been on one of these ā€œnewā€ treatments which is still working today.Ā

I don’t believe that God wanted or planned for me to have cancer. Through the everlasting love of our Lord, I have been able to experience the freedom that I may not have been able to accomplish if my life had not taken this dramatic turn. Every day is a blessing from God, and Lutheran Church of Hope has been monumental in continually giving me HOPE.Ā

Five years ago, my wife and I made a significant life change and moved to Panora from our home in Johnston, Iowa. Although we were very excited about life at the lake and all the great memories that would follow, we left behind the church we had known, loved and raised our family in for the past 30 years. The most challenging part of this move was the thought of making new friends, and finding a worshipping community we could become part of and serve in.

In early June of 2021, Hope Local Panora had just launched, and I mentioned to my wife that we should check it out. From the moment we set foot at Hope Local Panora, we knew this was part of God’s plan for us. We connected right away with several couples and found the teaching and worship to be phenomenal. We felt like we had found home!

Since then, a lot of Spirit-led moments have transpired, continuing to confirm the work of God’s Hand in our midst. Since getting connected at Hope Local Panora, we have been involved in many ways. Together we have we formed a small group, volunteer at Hope Kids, Vacation Bible School, and Taste of Hope! My wife got involved in a Women’s Bible study, and I have been blessed to be a part of Hope Worship the last two years. God has been so faithful!

Last fall, my wife and I got to be part of a mission team made up of Hope Local site members to build a home in Ensenada, Mexico. It was one of the best things we’ve done together as a couple since we’ve been married. Getting to be a part of that home build with fellow Hopesters and to see the tears of joy on the faces of the family we were blessed to serve, are memories we will always hold dear.

We’re so thankful for Lutheran Church of Hope and God’s faithfulness in working through this local body of Christ. This Church has been a huge blessing to us! I’m excited for what lies ahead and what other plans He has for us!

ā€œNow all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.ā€ Eph. 3:20-21
