What's in it for me?
Probably more than we care to admit, that's our attitude when it comes to service. We need something in return.
James and John did.
But not Jesus.
He came not to be served but to serve.
He came to give his life as a ransom for our sin.

The future is uncertain.
Except for one thing.
Jesus will be there for you.

He will work out all things for your eternal good.

God knew us.
He knew all about us.
Our sin, our guilt, our shame.
And he chose us anyway.
To be his own.
His children.
To live for us, to die for us, to call us to faith in Jesus.
Predestine. Elected.

In his early 20's.
A couple years into his 40-year reign.
Solomon felt inadequate.
To lead God's people.
So he asked God to bless him with something that would be a blessing to others.
Might God bless us with the very same thing so that we could be a blessing to those around us?

The parable of the weeds and the wheat.

Which soil are you?
In Jesus' parable of the sower and the seed . . .
At any given time in our lives on any given day couldn't we be any one of those four soils?
A prayer, perhaps?
Might we pray that such a perspective on this parable will lead us to repentance an produce a harvest of righteousness in our lives?
Such is the power of the Holy Spirit and his Word that is sown!
