Today Is St. Junipero Serra's Feast Day

On this day in 1769, St. Junipero Serra completed a 900-mile (1450 km) trek from Loreto, Mexico, to San Diego, California. Here he would stay to establish the first of 21 missions in that great state. Many missions developed into California's major metropolises of the present day.

Shortly after his elevation to sainthood by Pope Francis in 2015, St. Junipero's legacy became the focus of much controversy. Despite this, the Church in general and we Serrans in particular revere his memory and work to bring Catholicism to the United States.
