Olean Baptist Church The Olean Baptist Church was established on April 19, 1894, in Olean, Missouri. We are a small church with a big heart. Open to all who wish to worship the Lord.

*Worship Services: Sundays 11:00am-12:00pm
*Sunday School(all ages) 10-11am
*Willow Creek Senior Apartments (106 Willow Creek Drive, Eldon Mo): weekly Bible study Mondays 11-12pm community room, all welcome. A unique 6 sided church was built in 1895 on the corner of High and Walnut streets. In 1948, a rock church was built on the corner of Clark and Locust streets, where services are sti

ll held today. We are a Bible based church striving to serve God. Sunday School classes are held every Sunday, 10:00am-11:00am. We offer classes for all ages. Worship Service followed by a sermon are also given every Sunday, 11:00am-12:00pm. Services led by Pastor Brother Bob Hoskins.

Good day to everyone!
Today we had less in attendance on this Labor Day week-end. Many of our folks work their share of Sundays. They are in the service industry and that service never closes down. Always let your service workers know you appreciate them. They are the wheels on the bus!!!Nevertheless, we miss our people when they cannot be here.
We were blessed with visitors today! That is always a welcome surprise. We welcome you Annie and Karen and hope you felt at home at the OBC!
Today we observed the Lord’s Supper, served by Harold Sieling and Tony Zamarripa. Holden Gunn prayed over our offering and he and Darrell Boggs collected our offering. Thankyou gentlemen for serving your Lord and his church today. Tony also keeps our grass looking good!
Brother Bob’s sermon today was taken from Ecclesiastes 3:1
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” And Jeremiah 8:20-22
who talks about the season for redemption is gone. Redemption was offered and rejected by the people. We can see this in our society today. It is very sad. Our Lord doesnt not want to lose one soul. Let us examine our hearts and if we have not submitted to our Father’s invitation, the time to do so is today.
I pray everyone has a blessed week. Be safe. Offer a hand to those in need.

Every Monday we lead a Bible study in the community room at Willow Creek Senior Apartments from 11am-noon. We have 7-10 folks that regularly attend. You are welcome to join us.
The people who attend impress me every week. Depending on where their apartment is, they have to walk 1/2 to 1 block that isnt all flat ground. They get out and walk in rain, wind, cold, heat… just like the mail persons!!! They are hungry for God’s Word and for fellowship with other believers.
The people in our Bible study have become my friends over the last year or two…. I cant remember how long ago we started, lol. I look forward to Mondays and I appreciate each one that takes the time and effort to attend. I do not claim to be a teacher. I call myself the group leader. We all learn something every week.
Today we talked about the power of our tongues. Our tongue can destroy or build up. Here is a good word from James. The Bible has over 300 references to the tongue. It clearly states God hates gossip.

James 3: 1-12
1. Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
2. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
3. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
4. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
5. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
6. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind,
8. but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
11. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
12. My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Olean Baptist Church 08/30//026

Hello friends and neighbors! As we close out August, the summer heat wave is upon us this week. Everyone be safe please.
This has been a happy/sad time for our church. On Friday 8/28, we learned that our long-time friend and church member Gladys Kelly went to be with our Lord. She knew her time was near and Gladys was at peace with that. The wonderful staff at Good Shepherd Nursing Facility and the Hospice staff gave her the best care. Gladys passed peacefully
with family at her side.
The same day we told Gladys goodbye, we were celebrating another long-time friend and church member Lois Faulconer’s Happy 93rd Birthday at the Miller County Nursing Facility. Miss Lois is doing great and is very well pleased with the care she is receiving. You amaze us Lois! May God bless all the staff at both facilities as their jobs are very demanding.
Today Brother Bob took his sermon from Mark 4: 35-41, an event about Jesus asleep on the boat during a bad storm. The disciples were afraid and woke him up. Jesus calmed the sea. Jesus does not fault the disciples for being in danger, but for panicking without trusting that he was with them. Even when Jesus seems silent or asleep, his presence means believers do not need to be overcome by fear.
Let us all take a deep breath as we live in a world full of storms. Jesus is with us always. Thankyou Jesus.

Early (1day) birthday sweets for the forever sweet Lois Faulconer! We tried our best to pin the waaaaay too large corsage on her, finally settled on her arm for the pic . We presented Lois with a card from the Olean Baptist Church folks filled with notes to her. We enjoyed a cupcake and conversation with our special lady. Thankyou Lisa McCreery Hill for the beautiful bouquet of flowers that will decorate her room nicely.
Happy Birthday Lois! You are a jewel our friend. Keep shining sister! We love you💜🎂

Hello friends! We had a great Sunday morning worshipping at the OBC. We have several on our prayer list today. We ask for God’s presence in their lives. Today we recognized Brother Bob’s birthday this week(8/20). Also 8/29 is Lois Faulconer’s birthday.
Today Halley Boggs and Holden Gunn collected our offering. Holden prayed over the offering. We thank them for their service to the church. Halley prayed our closing prayer at the conclusion of worship.
Brother Bob’s message today was from Galatians 5: 7-12. The Apostle Paul asks who cut in on you running your race of life? Who kept you from obeying the truth? That person will pay a penalty. We as Christians must be careful who and what we pay attention to. Everything we believe must line up with God’s Word, the Bible. God’s Word is described as sharper than a double edged sword. We must educate ourselves on the absolute truth, not our opinions or man-made traditions.
May the Lord bless you and keep you this week. Kids are returning to school. Let’s pray for the students and the teachers.
