If you drive much during the Spring season in Missouri, you often face the challenge of driving in the rain. Drivers in Missouri, along with 41 other states, are required to turn on their headlights if they are using their windshield wipers. It’s a good law, and has probably saved a lot of lives and prevented an even larger number of accidents.
Inevitably, you’ll see vehicles driven by people who disobey this law. I’m not sure why. Maybe they are unaware of the law. Maybe they realize that using your headlights in the rain really doesn’t help you see any better. But I don’t think they understand that the purpose of the law is to help other drivers see them. You don’t just do it for yourself; you do it to keep everybody safer.
The guidance that God gives us in the Bible is like that. Living by His guidance helps us navigate the challenges of our journey, but a significant part of our obedience is to help others find God’s way. We are certainly people who are blessed, but we are also called to be a blessing to others. There are countless ways that we can do this, as “none of us live for ourselves alone” (Romans 14:7). Remember that you don’t just do it for yourself; you do it to keep everybody safer.
Keep you light shining, especially during the storms. Let’s make this world a safer place for everyone.
Beginning this Sunday, June 7, we’ll begin a study of life in the church as recorded in the book of Acts. We’ll examine a number of the great stories in this great book, as we learn from the victories and mistakes of these committed but imperfect people. We’ll start in chapter 1, and I encourage you to read it before Sunday.
Church camp at Camp Mocomi is starting up, as high school camp begins this Sunday. “Game On” (Romans 8:37) is this summer’s camp theme, and we encourage each one of our kids to attend their week of camp. We’ll also help support kids through camp scholarships.
Be careful out there. We’ll see you Sunday.
