First Christian Church of Eldon was formed in June 1884 with 19 members and our first pastor, the Reverend Edmund Wilkes. Our first church was located where Salem Cemetery is located, north of Eldon. Our first building was erected in 1889 on a lot west of Maple Street near the Rock Island Depot. Our congregation is affiliated with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, a body that developed on

the American frontier in the early 1800s as a voice for Christian unity. The Disciples Church has a rich heritage of spiritual fellowship, community service, mission outreach and Biblical education. Today FCC of Eldon is 136 years old and going strong with more than 200 members. Our annual events such as the Ham & Bean Dinner and the Salad Luncheon are hugely successful community events. As a family of believers we are inspired by Jesus' example of sacrificial love to serve those around us. We warmly invite you to visit us Sunday morning for worship service at 10:45 a.m.

We had another wonderful experience at Night Light Kickball Tournament. Great fellowship, fun, food and most importantly, a good lesson about Jesus. Our kids played hard the entire time, and are already talking about next year!

On Monday, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, trapping hundreds of people under debris, injuring many, and forcing many more to evacuate their homes. The epicenter of the earthquake was in San Jose Del Palmar, a city about 250 miles west of the capital of Bogotá. Early reports have already confirmed 20 casualties, with more expected in the coming days.

Week of Compassion is in communication with our partners on the ground who are monitoring the situation closely. We stand ready to accompany our partners and local communities and they respond to immediate needs and begin their long-tern recovery.
Please pray for all those affected, for the first responders and rescue teams, and for those providing hope and care in the midst of crisis.
