Phyllis J. Judy, 78, of Bayard, WV, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Dennett Rehab Center in Oakland, MD.

Born on April 19, 1948 in Keyser, WV, she was a daughter of the late Roscoe Elwood and Lola V. (Martin) Chapman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin E. Judy on January 7, 2015; a sister, Wilma "Nook" Paugh; a niece, Missy Paugh; a great niece, Lacey Heavener; a special friend, Bill Rymer and her two cherished canine companions, "Gizmo" and "Zoe."

Mrs. Judy was a homemaker and was formerly employed at Dilgard Restaurant in Mount Storm, WV and Sterling Processing in Oakland. She was a member of the House of Prayer in Hartmansville, WV.

Surviving is a great niece, Morgan Lambert and her husband Corey of Moorefield, WV; a great granddaughter, Anna Lambert; very close friends, Leslie and Joyce Hipp of Elk Garden, WV and numerous other special friends and extended family members.

A funeral service will be conducted at the House of Prayer, Hartmansville Road, Elk Garden, on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Leslie Hipp officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland, MD.

Carrie Louise (Ash) Sines, 86, of Wiley Ford, WV, slipped peacefully into the presence of her heavenly father on Monday, August 24, 2026, at her daughter's home in Berkeley Springs, WV.

Born March 24, 1940, in Accident, MD, she was a daughter of the late Robert Alvin Ash, Sr. and Mary Virginia (Brobst) Ash. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Sines; grandson, Jamie L. Sines; and sister, Elsie M. Lewis.

Carrie was a graduate of Southern Garrett High School. She began her nursing assistant career at Sacred Heart Hospital. Carrie was a member of Old Furnace Covenant Brethren Church.

Left behind to cherish Carrie's memory are her children, Timothy Sines (Patty), Robin Foreman (Robin), Barbara Aldridge (Jim), and Carrie Ellen Durst (Ryan); grandchildren, Kristina Dunn (Mike), Taleena Sines, and Carrie Elizabeth Durst; great-grandchildren, Damon Sines, Luke Miller, Dalton Sines, and Kasey Miller; siblings, Leota Gardner, Robert Ash, Jr., Roberta Baker, Joseph Ash, Jo Ellen Smith, and James Ash; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received at the Old Furnace Covenant Brethren Church, 188 Old Furnace Rd, Ridgeley, WV 26753, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10am to 12pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12pm with Pastor Phil Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens at a later date.

va M. VanMeter, 93, of Swanton, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 4, 1932, in Clarksville, Pennsylvania, Iva was the daughter of the late Lloyd E. Parrish and Floda A. (Sweitzer) Parrish.

Iva was twice widowed. She was first married to the late Charles Fickes Jr., with whom she shared five children. She later married the late Kenneth B. VanMeter, a U.S. Army Sergeant. For many years, Iva worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Cuppett and Weeks Nursing Home, where she cared for others with kindness, compassion, and a servant's heart. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Iva was of the Brethren faith and loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart. She found great joy in reading her Bible and other Christian books, singing and listening to gospel music, coloring, tending to her beautiful flower beds, and preparing delicious meals for those she loved. She was an excellent cook whose kitchen was always a welcoming place for family and friends, and she will long be remembered for her homemade pancakes that were requested by the grandchildren because she would let them help prepare them. Nothing in life brought Iva greater happiness than her family. She was the family's trusted babysitter, always eager to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She wrote in her Bible, "My children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are the loves of my life." Her eyes would light up whenever the babies came to visit, and those precious moments filled her heart with joy. She loved life and lived it to the fullest, leaving behind countless memories that her family will cherish forever.

She is survived by two sons; Charles K. Fickes and his wife Barb, of Kansas, and Lloyd W. Fickes of DuBois and companion Linda of Pennsylvania; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Fickes of Swanton and son-in-law Fred Graham of Crellin; daughter-in-law, Jolene Fickes of Kansas; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 23 great great-grandchildren; her brothers, James Parrish of Swanton, Robert Parrish of Swanton, and Calvin Parrish of Missouri; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Iva was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Fickes Jr.; her second husband, Kenneth B. VanMeter; three of her children, George A. Fickes, Robin E. Fickes, and Sherry Fickes Graham; her daughter-in-law, Irene Fickes; one great grandchild and two great great-grandchildren; and her siblings Lloyd Parrish, Edward Parrish, Betty T***s, Mary Grace Parrish, and Alice Paugh.

Iva's life was a beautiful example of faith, selfless love, and devotion to family. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, generous heart, and steadfast belief in God touched everyone who knew her. While her family grieves at her passing, they rejoice in knowing she has been welcomed into her heavenly home, where she is reunited with her loved ones who went before her. Her love and legacy will continue to live on through the generations of family she cherished so deeply.

Friends will be received on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM, at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A. - Oakland Chapel, 21 N. 2nd. Street. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Carl Lee officiating. A private interment will be in the Garrett Co. Memorial Gardens.

Jennifer wade Schwartz, 76, of Oakland, passed away on July 10, 2026, at Dennett Rehab Center. Born on January 19, 1950, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edwin and Erma Jeannine (Brunson) Gosnell.

Jennifer, lovingly known as Jenny by her family and friends, lived a life marked by quiet dedication, warmth, and a deep love for people and simple pleasures. She earned her bachelor's degree from Clark University and spent most of her career as a librarian, eventually earning a well-deserved promotion to head of circulation. A devoted member of the Book Club and the Women's Civic Club, Jenny found joy in knitting, tending her garden with a natural green thumb, and lifting her voice in song as a member of several choirs over the years. Her bright smile and genuine happiness were impossible to miss; she had a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome, never meeting a stranger and becoming a friend to all who crossed her path. She will be deeply missed by countless friends scattered across the country who were blessed to know her. Jenny was a kind soul and has always been known for her sunny disposition, warm smile, and genuine love for friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Hank Schwartz; her son, Max Schwartz and partner Haley; her granddaughter, Ozzy Schwartz; and her siblings, Jill Wakefield and husband Gary, Chuck Gosnell and wife Peggy, Jeff Gosnell and wife Sherry, and Amy Azzi and husband Renny.

A chapel service will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 1 PM, at the Garrett County Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest.

Earl William "Bill" Schrock, 82, of Oakland died on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on August 18, 1943, in Keyser, WV, he was the son of the late Gerald and Viola (Sines) Schrock.
He was a truck driver for many years, he then became a coal miner for ten years. In his retirement years, he was a mechanic for Mike's Auto Repair.
Bill was an amazing wood craftsman. He made chairs, bookshelves, wishing wells, baby cradles, and entertainment centers.
He loved working in his yard, bowling, watching westerns, sitting on his porch, and eating dinner with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley (Dillsworth) Schrock; four daughters, Linda Lewis and husband Mike of Oakland, Carol Spiker and husband Lance of Swanton, Shirley Glotfelty and husband Ed of Oakland, and BJ Riggleman and husband Zane of Oakland; ten grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, two sisters, Doris Evans and Sharon Hipp, both of Kearneysville, WV; a brother, Ronald Schrock of Oakland; and his dog, Jackie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Schrock.

Cheryl Jewel Wotherspoon, 96, of Swanton, passed away on July 8, 2026, at Dennett Rehab Center. Born on January 14, 1930, in Homestead, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence G. and Jewel (McKarey) Anderson.

Cheryl was a devoted member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a woman whose faith was expressed through quiet, consistent service to others. Prior to the opening of Christian Crossing, she helped lay its foundation and continued to volunteer, giving generously of herself to support the organization's mission. She also worked as an insurance clerk at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Beyond her church, volunteer work, and career, Cheryl found joy in many pursuits that reflected her active and creative spirit. She was an avid golfer and a former member of the Oakland Country Club. She loved to paint, and some of her happiest hours were spent swimming and water skiing on Deep Creek Lake. Cheryl was also a longtime member of the Mountain Laurel Garden Club, where her appreciation for beauty and nature found another meaningful outlet.

She is survived by her son, Gary G. Wotherspoon and wife Thaliah of Swanton; grandchildren, Matthew Wotherspoon and wife Lindsay, Heather Hartle and husband Paul, and Philip Wotherspoon and wife Tatiana; great-grandchildren, Laina J. Hartle, Paul J. Hartle IV, Jack Wotherspoon, and Ellie Rey Wotherspoon; and siblings, Doris Kubli of Swanton and L. Jean Layton also of Swanton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Walter M. Wotherspoon, to whom she married on December 5, 1950; and one son, Craig W. Wotherspoon.

Mae Lorein (Steyer) Custer, 97, of Oakland, passed away on July 1, 2026, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home. Born on May 1, 1929, on the family farm in the Ryans Glade community of Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Etta Grace (Thompson) Steyer.

Mae graduated from Oakland High School. She and her husband bought the family farm on Sand Flat Road in 1953, where she raised her family in a Godly home and lived with her husband until 2020. She and her husband made many friends and acquaintances selling sweet corn and other produce from their machine shed for over 30 years. In her free time, she loved spending time with her family. She also had a love for flowers.

She is survived by her three children, Robert Custer and wife Patty, Linda Rush and husband Rick, and Judy Falls and husband Ricky; nine grandchildren, Jared, Aimee, Erin, Nicholas, Jenna, Carey, Emma, Caitlin, and Cori; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Hubert, whom she married in September of 1949; ten siblings, Wilma (Steyer) Bittinger and husband Lenwood, Mabel (Steyer) Fisher Isaacs and husband Don, Lottie (Steyer) Harvey and husband Grant, Arthur Steyer and wife Lena, Jessee (Steyer) Beckman and husband Clarence, Helen Steyer, Harold Steyer and wife Betty, Ronald Steyer and wife May, Samuel Steyer and wife Evelyn, and John Steyer and wife Lois; and one grandson, Joshua.

Friends will be received on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5 to 8 PM at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 8931 Garrett Highway, Oakland, MD. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10 AM in the church with Pastor Mark Weeks officiating. Private interment will be held at Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

Anna Christine Livengood, 74, of Rawlings and formerly of Loch Lynn, died on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at her home. Born on May 15, 1952, in Buckhannon, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lewis and Mary Rose (Bennett) Moran.
She worked for Garrett Regional Medical Center for over 25 years in both the pharmacy and emergency department. Spending time with her grandkids was her greatest joy.
She is survived by her daughters, Tonya Livengood and significant other Jousha of Mt. Savage, and Lisa Freeland and husband Gary of Terra Alta, WV; grandkids, Aimee Lytle and husband Greg, Jordyn Bennett and husband Dillon, Zoie Beckman, Rayanna Beckman, Takoda Beckman, and Alizah Beckman; great grandkids, Emilee and Tucker Bowman, Tori and Caleb Lytle, and Kamryn Bennett; great great grandkids, Anna, Tatum, and Sutton; sisters, Katie Ware and significant other Neal Zinn, Sue Dean and husband John, all of Buckhannon; brothers, Thomas Moran and wife Glenna of Buckhannon, and William Moran and wife Pam, of Romney, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, William Ray Livengood; a son, Barry Livengood; a grandson, Michael Bowman; and her siblings, Patty Cutright, Robert Moran, Darlene Beck, Barbara Bushey, and Jeannie Higginbothan.
According to her wishes, she was cremated, and a private interment will be held in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

Helen Emily “Suz” Cain, 92, of McHenry, MD, died Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Cherry Hill Assisted Living, Accident, MD.

Born April 18, 1934, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Jeannette (Griffith) Stallings. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Wilkens, Sr.

Mrs. Cain was owner/operator of a Real Estate Agency in Puerto Rico.

Surviving are two brothers, Richard Wilkens & Ronald (Vickie) Griffith; one niece, one nephew; great & great – great nieces & nephews and two former husbands, Naz Velleggia & Raymond Cain.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Dennis Leatherman officiating. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
