Bittersweet Endings and New Beginnings

Each year from Memorial Day through Labor Day, we welcome many summer residents and visitors to our parish. Similar to the 2026 Fourth of July weekend, 1,000+/- people joined us at our three Masses this Labor Day weekend. We give thanks to God for the gift to welcome the faithful throughout the tri-state area and beyond. Our heartfelt appreciation extends to our clergy and many volunteers who serve – day after day - to fulfill our mission.

Our year-round weekend Mass schedule is now in effect. Masses are 4PM on Saturday at St. Peter at the Lake in McHenry and 9AM on Sunday at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Oakland. Unless noted otherwise in our bulletin and website, opportunities for reconciliation follow each weekend Mass (Labor Day through Memorial Day weekends). Please see our bulletin and website for daily opportunities to celebrate our faith as one body in Christ throughout the year. www.garrettstpeter.com

Join us for our Communion Service and Adoration with First Friday Devotion to The Sacred Heart of Jesus today (Sept. 4), and every First Friday, at noon in our Oakland church.

The Twelve Promises of our Lord to all who have devotion to His Sacred Heart as revealed to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690):
1. “I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.”
2. “I will establish peace in their families.”
3. “I will comfort them in their trials.”
4. “I will be their secure refuge during life, and, above all, in death.”
5. “I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.”
6. “Sinners shall find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.”
7. “Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.”
8. “Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.”
9. “I will bless every place where a picture of my Heart shall be set up and honored.”
10. “I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.”
11. “Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart, never to be effaced.”
12. “I promise you, in the excessive mercy of my Heart, that my all-powerful love will grant, to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; my Heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.”

Members of our Oakland vocal and handbell choirs shared their music ministry gifts with us at St. Peter at the Lake for our 11AM Sunday Mass this past weekend. We are thankful for their "yes" and blessed to be one parish with two locations in Garrett County, Maryland!

Our summer schedule comes to end on September 6 following the 11AM Sunday Mass at St. Peter at the Lake. See our bulletin at www.garrettstpeter.com and join us for many faith-sharing opportunities year-round in Oakland, McHenry and out-and-about town. Father Bill blessed our icon of St. Peter the Apostle during Mass on August 2, 2026 at our historic Church in Oakland. The icon of our patron saint, written by iconographer Nancy Ensor, will be placed in our Parish Center Hall.
