Philip Michael Thomas, who famously originated the role of the charismatic and ambitious music manager Stix in the 1976 musical drama cult classic Sparkle, has transitioned from a prominent 1970s and 1980s Hollywood star into a fully retired actor focused on independent music production. In Sparkle, a young Thomas showcased his smooth, magnetic screen presence alongside Irene Cara, a breakthrough performance that helped propel him to his iconic, career-defining role as Detective Ricardo Tubbs on Miami Vice. After stepping away from Hollywood acting in the early 2000s—save for highly recognizable voiceover work as Lance Vance in the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City video game franchise—Thomas now focuses on his health and creative ventures from his home in Florida. He operates as the CEO of Spaceship Records, utilizing his digital platform, Cosmic Diamond Distribution, to release his own catalog—such as the Sex-Z-Lady dance album—and promote new indie music artists.
