See our monthly calendar for Feast Day schedules and events What is Orthodox Christianity? Orthodoxy is life in Christ. It is not an easy life, in fact, it is often very difficult, but it is true life. To be an Orthodox Christian requires everything each of us has and is - but we do not face this challenge alone. W

e belong to the Church; the family of God that stretches across time from Pentecost in the book of Acts, through the present moment, and beyond. We have as our fathers and mothers in faith saints, holy men and women, who continue to pray for us before the throne of God and show us by their words and actions what it really means to be Christian. Obviously we do not always live up to their example, this life in Christ - in all its truth and beauty - but we are strugglers together who find our hope in Christ's promise that He will never leave us and trust that by his mercy we will become truly, fully, Christian.

Postfeast of Pentecost — 3rd Day of the Trinity

Many of the hymns of Pentecost are repeated in the postfestal services of this week, and references to the Holy Spirit, and to fire, abound. In particular, we are reminded of the Unburnt Bush (Exodus 3:2), the zealous Prophet Elias who ascended to Heaven in a chariot of fire, the three youths in the fiery furnace, and the Lord descending on Mt. Sinai in fire (Exodus 19:18).

As we commemorate the Holy Spirit this week, we look forward to the Sunday of All Saints, those righteous men and women of all nations and in every age, who were perfected and sanctified by the same Holy Spirit.

Did you know?
From Holy Pascha until the day of Pentecost, we do not make full prostrations. We kneel again on the day of Pentecost as a sign of humility to new life in the Holy Spirit and resume singing, “O Heavenly King…” in our prayers at home and church. Blessed Feast!

“. . . For as of old on the fiftieth day after the Sacrifice of the Lamb, the Law was given on Mount Sinai to the Hebrew people, now delivered from the Egyptians, so, after the Passion of Christ, in which the True Lamb of God was slain, on the fiftieth day after His Resurrection, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and upon the people who believed…”
