Did you know that The Christian Mission changed its name to The Salvation Army in 1878, and Hallelujah Lassies became the popular nickname for Salvation Army women who enthusiastically preached the Gospel?

While courageously conducting open-air meetings in poor and often dangerous neighborhoods, their mission was clear: to reach the poor, homeless, destitute masses with the redeeming message of Jesus Christ.

Each year on National Donut Day, we at The Salvation Army of Lincoln County take donuts to our First Responders. This year, we took donuts to: Toledo Police, East Lincoln County Fire and Rescue (Toledo and Siletz), Yachats Fire, Seal Rock Fire, Central Coast Fire, Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, Oregon State Police Newport Station, Newport Fire, Newport Police, Depoe Bay Fire (Depoe Bay and Gleneden Stations), North Lincoln Fire Rescue, Lincoln City Police.

This year, donuts were donated by Fred Meyer, McKay's Market in Newport, JC Market in Toledo, Chester's Markets, and Safeway in Lincoln City.

A huge "Thank you!" to all those who donated, those who helped us deliver the donuts, and especially to those who serve our Lincoln County community every day!

📢 'Dear friend, you are ‘light’ to express it, not to hide it. ‘Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bucket, but on a stand; and it gives light to all that are in the house,’ Jesus also said (Matthew 5:15). No one lights a candle and hides it under a bushel, right? It would defeat the entire purpose of light.' - Treasure Umoh

In this reflection, Treasure Umoh from Nigeria, a member of The Salvation Army’s International Children and Youth Advisory Group (ICYAG), explores what it truly means to be ‘light in the darkness’ and challenges us to live boldly and visibly for Christ. ➡️ https://alltheworld.salvationarmy.org/light-in-the-darkness/
