We come together to understand our spiritual nature as the image and likeness of God, using as our guide the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.

We come together to learn more about our spiritual nature as the image and likeness of divine Love, the Principle of all being. We use as our guides the Bible and the book Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. We work to apply what we are learning to our lives. We do not judge other people, their backgrounds or lifestyles, but join together to help each grow in spiritual

understanding and practice. You are always welcome at any of our services and activities. You can come Sunday mornings at 10 am and listen to a Bible Lesson read on a topic of interest. On the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 12:30pm, we meet to listen to readings on a special topic and then to share experiences we have had in learning and practicing Christian Science. Every Day Monday through Thursday from 11:30 to 1:30 we open our Reading Room for people to read the Bible Lesson, listen to songs, or read helpful articles and testimonies by those who have been healed in Christian Science.

So much of what we have seems to go away. Yet is this so? The Bible shares a different take. “I know that, whatsoever God does, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it.” Ecclesiastes 3:14. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson explains that lack and loss are not the effect of God, good. “Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay. Truth, Life, and Love are substance, as the Scriptures use this word in Hebrews: ‘The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’ All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. The conceptions of mortal, erring thought must give way to the ideal of all that is perfect and eternal. Through many generations human beliefs will be attaining diviner conceptions, and the immortal and perfect model of God’s creation will finally be seen as the only true conception of being.”

In the movie Barbie, the question is asked, “What was I made for?” A remarkable answer is found in the Bible. “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27. “This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.” Isaiah 43: 21. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson describes the creation and purpose of man, male and female. “There is but one creator and one creation. This creation consists of the unfolding of spiritual ideas and their identities, which are embraced in the infinite Mind and forever reflected. These ideas range from the infinitesimal to infinity, and the highest ideas are the sons and daughters of God. Immortal spiritual man alone represents the truth of creation. Many have read about the life of Jesus in the Bible, and may think, “I’ve read about Jesus, but I don’t really understand what his life as all about. What was he teaching us?” Paul said in a letter, “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death,” (Romans 8:2) implying that Christ Jesus taught of divine law that frees us from sin and death. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson delves deeply into the life and teachings of Jesus, explaining very much how these are applicable to our own lives. “Our Master taught no mere theory, doctrine, or belief. It was the divine Principle of all real being which he taught and practiced. Jesus was “the way;” that is, he marked the way for all men. Through the magnitude of his human life, he demonstrated the divine Life. Out of the amplitude of his pure affection, he defined Love. Who is ready to follow his teaching and example? All must sooner or later plant themselves in Christ, the true idea of God.”

Direction. Which way to go? We seek it by asking others for directions, or we consider the situation and draw our own conclusions, taking our best shot. Is the path we take the right one, or will it lead us into problems? Let us trust God, and follow God’s leading. This is the teaching of the Bible. “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson provides a wealth of ideas for clear and effective guidance in our lives. “All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and follow the leadings of truth. When we fully understand our relation to the Divine, we can have no other Mind but His, — no other Love, wisdom, or Truth, no other sense of Life, and no consciousness of the existence of matter or error.” “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.” Psalms 25: 5

How can we deal with loss of confidence in our ability? It starts with where we look for help. “Truly my soul waits upon God: from him comes my salvation.” Psalms 62:1. When we wait on our divine source, we find all our needs are met. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson leads us to understand our divine nature as the child of God, the Soul of all existence. “God is infinite, the only Life, substance, Spirit, or Soul, the only intelligence of the universe, including man. Man is the expression of Soul. God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis. The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal. The evidence of man’s immortality will become more apparent, as material beliefs are given up and the immortal facts of being are admitted.”

Many of us know the first commandment given by Moses, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” What does this mean for us? Well, it gives us guidance for our lives. If obeyed, it brings complete freedom and great peace. “To us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him.” I Corinthians 8:6. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson provides deep insights into the first commandment. “Jesus taught but one God, one Spirit, who makes man in the image and likeness of Himself, — of Spirit, not of matter. If the disciple is advancing spiritually, he is striving to enter in. He constantly turns away from material sense, and looks towards the imperishable things of Spirit. Love is an important part of our lives. We feel it and express it in so many ways. Its origin is God. “God is Love. We love because he first loved us.” I John 4:8, 19. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson explores the topic of divine Love in all its many facets. “The Divine Being must be reflected by man, — else man is not the image and likeness of the patient, tender, and true, the One “altogether lovely;” but to understand God is the work of eternity, and demands absolute consecration of thought, energy, and desire. Let unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, health, holiness, love — the kingdom of heaven — reign within us, and sin, disease, and death will diminish until they finally disappear. Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it.”

Anyone who knows the truth about something is not fooled by others claiming an alternate story. Likewise, when we understand that God is Truth, and apply this Truth to how we see spiritual reality, we are not fooled by someone claiming an alternate reality, one separate from God. “Ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” Deuteronomy 32:3, 4. This week’s Christian Bible Lesson shares wonderful spiritual insights into God’s being. “God is what the Scriptures declare Him to be, — Life, Truth, Love. To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the divine Principle of all that really is. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows. Spirit imparts the understanding which uplifts consciousness and leads into all truth. Truth is indeed “the way.”

What is our origin story? Our lineage? Where did we come from? Many say we are products of our past, from our childhood, or our ancestors. The Bible reveals a markedly different view, that we originate in God, the divine Life of all being. “The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” Job 33:4. This week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson delves deeply into this question of where we come from. “We all must learn that Life is God. God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis. Everything in God’s universe expresses Him. “This is life eternal,” says Jesus, — is, not shall be; and then he defines everlasting life as a present knowledge of his Father and of himself, — the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life.
