Greater Milwaukee Synod Friends for El Salvador page of the El Salvador Committee, Greater Milwaukee Synod, ELCA

The GMS El Salvador Committee is active locally, nationally and internationally in building relationships and understanding across cultures. The committee and its members advocate broadly on issues which are important to the Salvadoran community in the US and in El Salvador. The committee invites and assists GMS congregations who wish to have close relationships with sister congregations or Comuni

dad Rutilio Grande within the framework of accompaniment as described in the ELCA Companion Synod Handbook. The GMS is committed to the work of the Salvadoran Lutheran Church as it ministers to and with the poorest of the poor, holding up the value of mutuality: “there is no one so rich that they cannot receive, nor so poor that they cannot share.”

The Greater Milwaukee Synod is excited to offer an event with renowned Salvadoran artist, Pastor Christian Chavarria.

On Sunday, May 31 from 3 - 6pm at Ascension - Waukesha (1415 Dopp St), Pastor Christian will be leading an event where participants will create their own cross in the iconic Salvadoran folk art style. Pupusas will be provided.

Who is Pastor Christian?
In addition to his many roles within the Salvadoran Lutheran church, Pastor Christian is known for creating vibrant, hand-painted crosses that symbolize peace, hope, and resurrection. His work, often featuring doves and scenes of daily life, reflects his experience as a child refugee during the Salvadoran civil war.

Your registration will help us be sure we have enough art supplies and food.
