9/11/26 Good News Tuesday: When the Grace Lifts
Years ago, I attended a small country church in my hometown area. The pastors were wonderful people, and I loved serving there.
I was their worship and youth leader. I also had the privilege of spending time with the pastors. I can assure you, I did more talking than I should have and not nearly enough listening! Thankfully, they were gracious with me
After 3½ years, I began sensing something in my spirit.
It was time to launch a women’s ministry in the community.
I also knew I couldn’t launch it from that church. I knew God was leading me to another church.
But I dragged my feet.
I didn’t want to hurt my pastors.
One Sunday morning, I sat at the piano before service, running through my songs. I was so troubled inside I wanted to scream.
I had lost my heart to be there.
There was no grace-enabling power upon me to lead worship. I simply didn’t want to do it anymore.
There was a small room behind the piano, so I jumped up and went back there. Through tears I said to the Lord, “Lord, if You’ll grace me one more time to lead worship, I will make an appointment with the pastors this week and share my heart with them.”
And the grace came.
I walked back out and led worship that morning. It was the last time I led worship in that church.
That experience taught me something I’ve never forgotten: When the grace lifts and you don’t move with it, misery will move in.
The place you once loved can suddenly feel like a burden. And when something becomes a burden, you can start finding fault with everything.
But when the grace of God is upon you to be somewhere, you may see things that aren’t perfect, but they don’t consume your attention. You’re not looking for what’s wrong because you’re focused on what God has called you to do.
Now, I’m not talking about people who turn against a pastor or church family because they got offended, didn’t get their way, or didn’t like a decision.
That’s not what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about the anointing and grace of God upon you to do the assignment He has given you in the place He has called you to be.
Sometimes the grace for an assignment lifts because God is changing the assignment.
When that happens, don’t turn against the people.
Don’t make the church the problem.
Don’t start picking everything apart.
Recognize the grace has lifted and follow God. Because when God moves you, He doesn’t leave you without grace. There is grace for the next assignment.
When the grace lifts, peace leaves with it.
And when you follow the grace, you’ll find peace again in the place God is leading you.
Don’t stay where the grace has lifted simply because you’re afraid of hurting someone.
Obedience to God is always the right move.
