The Sermon on the Mount is uncomfortable because it removes our ability to stand above other people.

Jesus confronts more than actions.

He confronts motives.

Pride.
Anger.
Self-righteousness.
The parts of us we usually excuse while condemning everyone else.

The danger is not just “out there.”

It’s in the human heart and when we see the problem is our heart then He can begin the work.

And the Gospel doesn’t lead us toward superiority.
It leads us toward humility, repentance, and grace.
