Pause and pray the Lord's Prayer. What is one word or phrase from this prayer that you connect with today?

08/30/2026

We in the wish you a blessed Sunday with Paul's advice for early Christians in Rome: "Live in harmony with one another; do not be arrogant, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are... .

"Then Jesus told his disciples, 'If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.'" - Matthew 16:24-25

Jesus counsels that a full life is one lived in holy connection--not one lived for selfish gain. May we direct our thoughts and actions towards reflecting God's priorities in the world today as we pray:
Lord of grace and goodness,

You call us to set ourselves aside
and to follow after you,
seeking your aspirations and hopes.

May we start this day with a sense
of connection and guidance.
May your thoughts be our thoughts.
May we seek to love as you love.
May our words and actions this day be a reflection of your presence.

Amen.

In response to the catastrophic flash flooding that occurred along the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, UMCOR is awarding a solidarity grant to support United Mission Nepal as they aid impacted communities in Dhading and Nuwakot districts with emergency food and non-food item (NFI) assistance. Alongside this grant, UMCOR is continuing to explore opportunities for further response through our partner networks and local assessments.

Please remain in prayer for these communities as the toll of this disaster continues to worsen. Authorities now report that at least 579 people have died and 1,924 people remain missing, with these numbers expected to grow as some areas remain inaccessible. Search and rescue teams are still working to reach communities cut off by the disaster, with damaged roads, landslides, and communications disruptions hindering relief operations and making it difficult to fully assess needs.

We lift up this call for prayer, presence, and continued accompaniment from the Rev. Jung Eun Grace Moon, general secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia, ecumenical partner of The United Methodist Church: โ€œIn this time of profound loss and suffering, may Godโ€™s comforting presence draw near to all those affected, embrace those who grieve, strengthen those who search and serve, shelter those who have lost their homes and kindle a light of hope amid the darkness.โ€

A Call to Prayer for Nepal and Tibet
From Bishop Hee-Soo Jung

Our hearts are with the people of Nepal and Tibet following the catastrophic flash floods that struck the Himalayan border region on August 26. Numerous lives have been lost, many residents and travelers remain missing and entire communities have suffered the loss of homes, livelihoods and vital infrastructure.

I invite all churches across the Ohio Episcopal Area to pray for those who grieve, those awaiting news of their loved ones and all who have been displaced. May God strengthen rescue workers and relief partners, protect vulnerable communities from further danger and provide the resources needed for recovery and rebuilding.

As one body in Christ, let us accompany the people of Nepal and Tibet with prayer, compassion and generous solidarity. Churches and individuals wishing to support relief and recovery efforts are encouraged to give through United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) online here: https://tinyurl.com/ye7n48pw

May this tragedy also renew our commitment to care for Godโ€™s creation, pursue climate justice and stand with communities most vulnerable to environmental disasters.

Lord, have mercy. Bring comfort, protection, healing, and hope.

"Then Jesus told his disciples, 'If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?'" ๐Ÿ“– Matthew 16:24-26

How do Jesus' questions here shape your priorities? What are you working to gain? ๐Ÿ’ญ

Lord in your mercy hear our prayers.

Join us in prayer for those impacted by devastating flash flooding along the border of Nepal and Tibet today. We pray especially for the families and loved ones of those who have died or remain missing, and for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

As first responders assist survivors and search for the missing, UMCOR stands ready to support the response efforts of United Mission Nepal and other partners in the region.
