This Sunday, after the 11:30 Mass, we will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 12:30-3:00pm. Before Benediction, we will recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00pm. Please join us for this wonderful opportunity.

The Octave of Easter is also called Divine Mercy Sunday. Established in 2000 by St. John Paul II at the canonization of St. Faustina, this devotion complements this weekend's message of forgiveness and mercy which have always been central to the Easter Octave. St. Faustina wrote in her Diary that Jesus said to her: "I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and a shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My mercy." We hear in John's Gospel this weekend that He tells the disciples "Peace be with you. Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them." Our Psalm repeats the message that "His mercy endures forever." May we embrace this Easter joy of our Lord Jesus' forgiveness, peace, strength, and endless mercy.

In Pope Leo's Urbi et Orbi address on Easter Sunday, he announced a prayer vigil for peace on Saturday, April 11 in anticipation of the Octave of Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday. This weekend, the words we will hear from our Lord Jesus in the Gospel when he appears to the apostles in the upper room are "Peace be with you." Pope Leo said, "The peace that Jesus gives us is not merely the silence of weapons but the peace that touches and transforms the heart of each one of us." The prayer vigil, which will include a Holy Rosary, will be televised at noon on the Vatican website and other media sources. Please consider joining Pope Leo and others around the world in praying for peace this Saturday.

Today, Bishop Fernandes will celebrate the Chrism Mass, which is concelebrated by all priests in our diocese. Besides blessing and consecrating the sacred oils to be used for the Sacraments over the next year, all priests will renew their priestly vows. We give thanks to God for our pastor Fr. Kavanagh and all priests in our diocese. Remember Fr. Kavanagh, Monsignor Hendricks, Fr. Klima, and all priests today in your prayers.

If you would like to make a Confession before Easter, today is the last day to do so. Fr. Kavanagh will be hearing Confessions from 4:00-7:00pm in the PLC. The church will be open for prayer as well.

"In truth, the dignity of the Mother of God is so lofty that naught created can rank above it. But as Joseph has been united to the Blessed Virgin by the ties of marriage, it may not be doubted that he approached nearer than any to the eminent dignity by which the Mother of God surpasses so nobly all created natures. For marriage is the most intimate of all unions which from its essence imparts a community of gifts between those that by it are joined together. Thus in giving Joseph the Blessed Virgin as spouse, God appointed him to be not only her life’s companion, the witness of her maidenhood, the protector of her honor, but also, by virtue of the conjugal tie, a participator in her sublime dignity. And Joseph shines among all mankind by the most august dignity, since by divine will, he was the guardian of the Son of God and reputed as His father among men.” (Pope Leo XIII, 1899)

St. Joseph, Protector of the Holy Church, pray for us!
