MCMunited

MCMunited We believe that working together is more fruitful than preserving the historic denominational lines that divided us.

Manitowoc Cooperative Ministry (MCM) is a unique ministry of Peace United Church of Christ and First Presbyterian Church PCUSA—two local congregations that chose to put the Gospel before preserving the status quo. In a process started in 2016, we discerned that we were spending more time, money, and energy on survival mode than on being the hands and feet of Christ in Manitowoc. Certain that God i

s still speaking to our congregations throughout our combined 400 years of witness, and recognizing that we are forever being reformed by God’s spirit, we chose to find a new way of being church—a way that allows us to share our resources in order to provide a common witness of Christ’s love, hospitality, and hope. We believe that when we work together we can best share the peace and justice of God’s beloved community in all the world.

Memorial Day Pastoral Reflection/Prayer

On Memorial Day, we remember those who gave their lives in service. We hold their names, their stories, and their absence with reverence. We also hold the grief of families who still feel the weight of empty spaces at tables and silent rooms that once rang with laughter.

Grief is part of this day. Not something to rush past, not something to resolve, but something to honor. For love and loss are bound together, and remembrance is its own kind of prayer.
So we pause. We give thanks. We grieve. And we entrust all that we cannot fix into the mercy of God, who holds every life with tenderness beyond our understanding.

May this day lead us not only to memory, but to a deeper commitment to peace, so that fewer families in the future will carry this same sorrow.
Amen.
