💛 Golden Friendship — Joshua Meyer

Jesus defines Golden Friendship.
đź“– Matthew 7:12
Jesus gives us the Golden Rule: treat others the way you would want to be treated. A simple question to ask ourselves is: “If this would hurt me, why would I do it to someone else?”

Ruth and Jonathan help us see what Golden Friendship looks like.

📖 Ruth 1:6–18 — Loyal
Ruth chose loyalty when it would have been easier to walk away. Golden friendship stays committed, even when circumstances change.

📖 1 Samuel 18:1–5 — Selfless
Jonathan loved David without making the friendship about himself. He willingly gave and sacrificed for his friend. Golden friendship isn’t about what we can get; it’s about what we can give.

Jesus demonstrates Golden Friendship perfectly by giving Himself up for us.
đź“– Mark 10:45
Jesus came to serve and to give His life as a ransom “for many”—in place of many. He didn’t simply tell us what sacrificial friendship looks like. He became the ultimate example of it.

We love differently because Christ has made us new.
📖 2 Corinthians 5:14–15
Because Christ’s love changes us, His Spirit is at work in the way we love other people. We aren’t called to manufacture perfect friendships through our own strength.

Abide. Abide. Abide.

The closer we remain connected to Jesus, the more His love begins to shape the way we treat our friends, our children, our spouses, our coworkers—and even the people who are difficult to love.

✨ Call to Action

Pray for your kids—or the kids you know—and their future friends and friendships.
Become the friend you’re hoping to have, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Get into community. We were never meant to do life alone.
Become a friend of Jesus. Before we can learn to love others well, we need to know the One who loves us perfectly.

Golden friendship starts with Jesus. When we abide in Him, His love changes the way we love everyone else.

A figure struggles to remove a wooden beam from his own eye, bringing to life the striking picture Jesus gives in Matthew 7:5:

“First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

Plank Eye reminds us to look inward before looking critically at others. Jesus does not tell us to ignore the struggles or sin of those around us. Instead, He calls us to begin with ourselves, to recognize our own sin, repent, and allow God to change us.

True clarity begins with humility. When we recognize how much we need God’s grace ourselves, we are better prepared to extend that same grace to others.

Before looking for the speck in someone else’s eye, first ask: What plank might God be asking me to see in my own?

Not every accusation deserves your attention. Sometimes faithfulness means staying focused on what God has called you to do.
