True initiation ministry is about apprenticeship. A sponsor does not need to be flawless. They simply need to be an honest witness. When a sponsor is willing to share how they navigate their own doubts, how they find peace in the midst of tragedy, and how they return to prayer even when God feels distant, they give the seeker an example of discipleship in the real world. They model a living, breathing faith rather than a cardboard cutout.

With the FIFA World Cup opening this month, Pope Leo XIV has dedicated his June prayer intention to the power of sport to build bridges between cultures and nations, releasing a video prayer calling on athletes, coaches and fans alike to embrace the field as a space of encounter rather than division.

The Vatican released the monthly “Pray with the Pope” video on June 2 in which the pope prayed that “sport may always be a school of fraternity, not of empty rivalry, a space of encounter, not exclusion, a path of peace, not violence.”

Join the conversation on Pope Leo’s new encyclical!

This papal document invites each of us into a conversation about how to be fully human in a world where AI is growing at an unchecked rate, elite and non-state actors control data, and the common good is not prioritized.

Join the conversation with Kim Daniels, JD, from Georgetown, Scott Hurd from Catholic Charities USA, Nichole Flores, PhD, from University of Virginia, and Paul Schrez, PhD, from Notre Dame, who will help us to consider deeper questions about our relationships with God, each other, creation, and technology. (A live Spanish interpretation offered!)
