The fight for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) did not happen overnight. It grew from decades of courage, faithful witness, and voices willing to ask difficult questions.

In this Ministry in Motion video feature, we explore the long journey toward inclusion through the actions of the General Assembly and the stories of LGBTQIA+ Presbyterians and their allies who helped move the church forward.

The first video in this series begins with a moment that changed everything: when David Sindt stood at the 1974 General Assembly in Louisville holding a simple sign that asked, “Is anyone else out there gay?”

Ministry in Motion exists to lift up stories like this — moments of faith, courage, and transformation happening across the church. Watch the first video in the three-part "Journey to Inclusion" series below.

New worship resource!
On Sunday, June 28, commissioners and advisory delegates to the 227th General Assembly will fan out across Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to worship with congregations at area PC(USA) churches.

Worship planners and leaders across the country have a new resource to help them put together a worship service in their own context for that Sunday or another Sunday of their choosing.

Learn more about the 10-page “Gathering in the City” resource, which draws on the assembly theme “Persevering Toward Wholeness,” here: https://hubs.ly/Q04kzXFX0

What’s the role for faith communities in helping more of God’s children to secure safe and affordable housing?

That was the central question behind Thursday’s day-long Faith-Based Development Summit hosted by the City of Louisville, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and the United Church of Christ Church Building & Loan Fund. The Goodwill Opportunity Center in West Louisville hosted more than 100 attendees, who heard from speakers and panels discussing lessons learned, financing and home repairs — and what churches can do to ease the nation’s housing crisis. In 2003, the 215th General Assembly passed the policy statement “Presbyterians Do Mission in Partnership” grounded in five principles:
• Shared grace and thanksgiving
• Mutuality and Interdependence
• Recognition and respect
• Open dialogue and transparency
• Sharing of resources.
Over the past few decades, Presbyterians have learned from their partners how to embody these principles more fully, and we are still evolving. In a rapidly changing world, read how Global Ecumenical Liaisons (GELs) are continuing this work with humility and faith.

“We born here, so we want to die here.”

The Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe has lived along the Louisiana coast for generations, but climate change and environmental destruction are threatening their land, homes, and sacred burial grounds.

This video shares the resilience of a community fighting to protect its future — and the ways the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Committee on Mission Responsibility Through Investment (MRTI) have walked alongside them and advocated for them in corporate boardrooms.

As Christians, we are called to be stewards of God’s creation and advocates for communities most impacted by environmental harm.

Watch the story of faith, resilience, and partnership.
