For generations, Black churches have served as anchors of faith, ministry, leadership, and community life throughout Louisville’s historically Black communities. Today, congregations are striving and thriving in the midst of change.

On Saturday, September 26, join pastors, clergy, church leaders, nonprofit leaders, and community partners for an interactive seminar exploring the challenges and opportunities facing Black churches in Louisville’s historic Black communities and what we can accomplish together.

A graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, she has served in leadership, pastoral care, spiritual development, and restorative practices. Chandra is an author and consultant whose work is deeply informed by the wisdom of Howard Thurman.

Throughout this week, we have gathered to welcome new students, learn, worship, listen, create, and celebrate together. In doing so, we have been reminded that none of us learns, serves, or lives out our calling alone. We are woven together – by our shared lives, our stories, our questions, our faith, and our commitment to a world in need of hope.

Each of us brings a unique thread to the fabric of this community. Some threads are new; others have been part of this tapestry for generations. As we look toward the year ahead, the theme: "Woven Together - Where Humanity Meets the World Today" invites us to remember that we belong to something larger than ourselves.

We appreciate everyone who added their own thread to the stories we continue to weave together and share with the world.🧵✨

Louisville Seminary’s Faith Talks: Where the Black Church Speaks returns for 2026–27 with a new series exploring the history, theology, witness, and future of the Black Church.

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Faith, Speaking to the Future: Black Theology for the Church and the World,” brings Louisville Seminary faculty scholarship into conversation with clergy, congregations, students, alums, and community leaders around theological questions shaping Black church life today.

What happens when our God-talk becomes too certain?

Join Louisville Seminary for the 2026 Katie Geneva Cannon Womanist Lecture, featuring theologian and scholar Rev. Dr. Keri Day.

Resisting the Domestication of God-Talk: Towards a Black Feminist Apophatic Mysticism

Drawing on Black feminist and womanist thought, Dr. Day will explore how Black feminist apophatic mysticism challenges theological certainty and invites us to imagine and speak about God in more expansive, ethical, and Spirit-filled ways.

Centering the life and witness of Sojourner Truth, the lecture will consider Black mystical traditions that resist attempts to define or contain God while reckoning with the theological legacies of U.S. slavery.

Dr. Day is the Elmer G. Homrighausen Chair and Professor of Constructive Theology and African American Religion at Princeton Theological Seminary. In 2023, she became the first African American woman promoted to full professor in Princeton Theological Seminary history.
Come explore what becomes possible when our theology makes room for mystery, wonder, and a God who cannot be contained.
