As we saw last week, the Bible tells us our lives should look different from the lives of others around us. Because we have a new identity in Christ, we should be putting off what no longer fits who we are and putting on the godly character that aligns with our new identity. And as we’ll see on Sunday, that means we are to be people who tell the truth and whose word can be trusted.

Honesty in the body of Christ isn't just about telling the truth—it's rooted in the resurrection power of Jesus working in you. When you put on the new man through your union with Christ, you're accessing the power to put off deception and walk in newness of life.

Every parent has the same goal for his or her children. As much as we love nurturing and caring for them throughout their childhood years, we long to see them blossom into the mature young men and women God created them to be.

God’s desire for His children is the same. He wants us to grow up in all ways into Christ. We’ll see just what that Christlike maturity should look like in our lives and in our church.

When you give someone a gift, what are you hoping they’ll do with it? Depending on the gift, you’re likely hoping they will wear it or eat it or put it to use in some way. That’s exactly what Jesus is expecting we will do with the gifts He has given us – gifts that, as we see in Ephesians 4, are even more precious to us as we think about the price He paid so we could possess them. We explore what Ephesians 4 tells us about spiritual gifts.

The Bible places a high value on God’s children living together in peace and unity. But look around. Peace and unity are not a priority in our polarized culture – or even among brothers and sisters in Christ who are often divided and contentious. As we continue our study in Ephesians 4 we’ll see how and why we are called to pursue unity and peace in the church.

What’s the right response of a child of God for all that He has done for us? We’ll begin to explore that subject as we resume our study of the Book of Ephesians this week. The Bible gives us a clear path to follow as we seek to live our lives in a way that reflects our gratitude for the new life God has given us in Christ.
