The Lutheran Center (UNL)

The Lutheran Center (UNL) Worship during the semester: 11 am on Sunday mornings & 9:15pm on Wednesday evenings.

Our mission is to invite students more deeply into Jesus Christ and the community that bears His name, so they can discover and fulfill their vocation as disciples. We are a campus site of Nebraska Lutheran Campus Ministries, an agency of the Nebraska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

From the beginning, God created with great diversity. God loves people of every race, ethnicity, class, age, national origin, documentation status, socio-economic status, criminal record, mental or physical health status, size, ability status, s*x, s*xual orientation, relationship status or practice, gender identity, and gender expression.

Striving to reflect and embody God's love, The Lutheran Center acknowledges the uniqueness of every person. Everyone is welcome to bring their whole selves into this worship space and community. We are intentional in practicing welcome.

To build and maintain an inclusive culture, we practice confession and forgiveness and commit to cultivating a community of justice and equity for BIPOC, LGBTQUIA+ people, and individuals of all experiences. We hold one another accountable to love our neighbor through ongoing education and the intentional pursuit of physical, emotional, and spiritual safety for those in our community. We recognize that we, individually and as a community, have room to grow in living out God's radical love, trusting that God is guiding us through this journey of welcoming all.

Our year by the numbers!

On average, we serve 40 students a week during the school year through worshiping, searching, serving, and sending, with about 90 touchpoints with students both within and beyond our walls.

Our ministry is made possible because of your faithful prayer and support.

Being sent to travel as The Lutheran Center has been a beloved tradition at the end of the school year. This year, we were able to take a mountain retreat in Estes Park, CO, for a time set apart in mountain retreat.

"At Estes Park, I deeply appreciated the peaceful mornings. I would often journal or go on a sunrise hike before our group morning prayer. During that time, I felt truly connected with both God and nature." Ben H '29, electrical engineering.

Our original plans to visit Holden Village changed quickly after they experienced flooding and blizzards this winter, which caused damage to their infrastructure. We continue to hold Holden Village and all who love it in prayer as they work to get the village back in shape for guests.

These changes in our plans didn't stop the group from forming deep connections between their faith and creation. Together, the group took the time to reflect on being rooted in God's creation and in relationship with one another by reading 'Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit' by Lyanda Lynn. Haupt.
