Most people don't plan to wreck their marriage, compromise their convictions, or make choices they'll regret.

Those things usually happen one small step at a time.

That's why Scripture doesn't just tell us to resist temptation when it comes. It tells us to "make not provision for the flesh." Don't leave the door cracked open. Don't put yourself in situations that make compromise easier. Set boundaries before they're needed.

Guarding your heart starts long before temptation arrives.

Most moral failures don't begin at the moment everyone sees.

They start long before that, when we stop paying attention, get comfortable, and convince ourselves there's no real danger. That's what happened with David. The rooftop wasn't the beginning of the story. It was the result of a series of choices that opened the door to trouble.

Guarding your heart isn't just about avoiding the wrong thing. It's about staying faithful in the right things, and remaining vigilant even when everything seems to be going well.

Many of the struggles we face don't start with a single bad decision. They start with what we've allowed into our hearts over time.

The media we consume, the conversations we entertain, the habits we develop, and the thoughts we dwell on all shape the direction of our lives.

Guarding your heart won't eliminate every problem, but it will prevent a lot of issues before they ever take root.

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." Proverbs 4:23

What are you feeding your heart:
📲what media,
💬what conversations,
🎽what habits?
Everything you feed your heart is either strengthening or weakening your marriage.

Guard the gate.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Galatians 6:7-8

Marriages rarely fall apart in a single moment. The greatest dangers often begin long before anyone notices them.

An unguarded heart, unchecked influences, misplaced priorities, and small compromises slowly weaken what God designed to thrive.

Marriage requires more than good intentions. It calls for vigilance, deliberate boundaries, and a commitment to protect what God has joined together.

What we value, we guard, and few gifts deserve greater care than the covenant of marriage.

Strong marriages don't happen by accident.

Every marriage needs intentional care, biblical wisdom, and a commitment to protect what God has joined together.

✅Join us this Sunday at 9:30am for "Guarding Your Marriage" in the series on marriage and family.

We'll look at biblical principles for strengthening, protecting, and preserving the marriage relationship.

Nursery and children's program provided during the service.

The way people think about marriage long before the wedding day usually shapes the kind of marriage they build later.

Our culture teaches people to approach relationships with a contract mindset: “As long as this works for me, I’ll stay.” Scripture speaks about covenant instead.

A covenant does not center on convenience, feelings, or personal benefit. It centers on commitment before God.

That question matters whether you are married or single. The foundation you build in your thinking now will eventually shape the way you love, commit, sacrifice, and stay faithful later.

"Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant." Malachi 2:14

Our culture has reduced marriage vows to emotional words people say during a ceremony and then ignore or reinterpret later if life changes. Scripture treats vows very differently. God describes them as something that binds the soul.

Marriage was never meant to be a temporary arrangement built on convenience, feelings, or public appearance. It is a promise made before a living God who hears every word spoken. That changes the weight of marriage completely.

A husband and wife are not just committing themselves to each other emotionally. They are entering a covenant before God Himself, and that covenant was always meant to be treated as sacred.

"When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed." Ecclesiastes 5:4
