In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Dear Community Members,

We are deeply saddened and shaken by the horrific tragedy that occurred today at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the San Diego Muslim community.

Please be assured that the safety, security, and peace of mind of our congregation remain our highest priorities. In direct response to this event, the Board is convening an emergent board meeting to review, enhance, and implement strict safety protocols at our facility.

Moving forward, we are taking immediate action on the following fronts:

• Enhanced Security for Salat Al-Jumah and Eid Al-Adha: We are actively reviewing and upgrading our on-site security measures for all upcoming Friday prayers and our next Eid prayer.

• Coordination with Lawrence Police Department: We are establishing direct communication with the Lawrence Police Department (LPD) to coordinate enhanced safety measures, including an increased police presence and patrol visibility during major community gatherings.

We want to reassure you that we are doing everything in our power to keep our sacred spaces safe. We ask our community to remain vigilant, calm, and united in prayer.

Further updates regarding specific security measures will be shared as they are finalized. If you have any immediate concerns or professional expertise in security that you wish to offer, please contact any of the board members.

We pray for the protection of our community and places of worship everywhere 🤲🏼

Thanks to everyone who joined ICL last night to celebrate the End of Year BBQ and honor our graduates! Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped us with the event, from food prep and grilling to set up and clean up and everything else, Jazak Allahu Khayran. InshAllah if you didn't make it, you can join us at our next gathering for Eid al-Adha -- details to be announced soon. Once again, congrats to all of our graduates and may Allah guide you onto your next steps in life 🤲

Please join ICL in celebrating the end of another successful school year at our End of Year BBQ! InshAllah this will take place this Saturday, May 16th at 7pm at the mosque, and we invite everyone who comes to bring a drink or side dish/dessert to share. Prior to the dinner, at 6pm there will be a short program discussing the importance of curtailing the use of single use plastic bottles and we invite you to join for that as well.

Congratulations to all of our 2026 graduates and we hope to celebrate with you this weekend!

We are sharing a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who have helped improve our facilities over the past month, Jazak Allahu Khayran - may Allah reward you all for your good deeds 🤲 these community members have painted, cleaned, and fixed up the main north entrance, laid truckloads of mulch outside and killed weeds, planted flowers and trimmed the trees on the property -- just to name a few things!

We are so grateful and would encourage anyone who has even 10 minutes to give to ICL to reach out to us via a comment or message to get involved. There are ongoing maintenance needs, and our community is entirely supported by volunteer actions - no paid staff. InshAllah we'll see you at our next volunteer day, which will take place June 6th at 10am!
